Question Recommended Car Battery Charger / Power Supply

Just wanted to get throughts on a good Battery Charger for modern start/stop cars when working on them with coding etc (to avoid battery drain etc).

Normally I would start the engine, but sometimes the engine must not be running when doing updates for example.

Not sure if "Battery Charger" is the right term to use, or just something to stop the battery draining and the car shutting down mid-coding/flashing etc.

The VAS 5908 is quite expensive

    Thanks

    Andy

You want something that can produce at least 20 amps without breaking a sweat. The products offered on your side of the pond are quite different than ours, so can't make a specific recommendation, other than to avoid cheap stuff.

For your application, you don't really need a "charger". A power supply putting out a fixed 13.4-13.8V will work just fine, but a good one capable of providing the requisite 20 or more amps that a modern car can pull still won't be cheap.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

This is what I use for BMW flashing. Never had an issue and often has peak demand of 50A with some BMWs
