Engine light lit
Fault code on fuel temperature sensor (G81) - P0183
The sensor did not cost much so I changed it - same fault code
I already had purhaged Fluke PRO3000 thanks to the tip in here and got it to use.....

This is what I found under the air filter box where the sound got silent on one of the wires to G81:

The arrows points at two places:

Aww, can’t see your photos. Have you embedded them correctly?

*Edit* You may have to add ‘.jpg’ after your imgur tags...

At first I thought rodent damage; but then I thought the nicks in the insulation looked too round and too regular. So that corrogated protective conduit - doesn't?!

I have repaired hundreds of similar... Golf 5, Passat B6, Caddy, Octavia, A3, Leon etc.
It's because after 2000. VAG started to save money on insulating tape. No tape where wires are in corrugated tubes...

Yes - right Zenerdiode and MartinX ;)
In my book, these are tighten too tight (dont know what to call them in English so I drew the red ring on it) and yes not much electric tape under the plastic tube:

Im going to take in our neighbors Caddy from 2008 and see that all looks good.
Martin - do you see this happening in diesels only or in petrol cars too? Do I need to check our Passat from 2000?

WOW. That's pretty severe wear.

Broken wires there is a pretty common thing - especially on diesels. The engine mounts go soft after a short time too, and the engine wobbles even more.

The wear there is interesting - I thought normally the conductors simply break from flexing.

For you DIY-Home Gamers (like me), who don't have access to Wurth or similar automotive specialty suppliers or wholesale electrical suppliers, you can find 3M friction tape at your nearest big orange box (HD).
Part number: 3407NA-BA-6 It's $2.97 per roll of 3/4" wide.

(friction tape is that nice cotton wrap anti-abrasion tape).

Yes, last week have repaired Skoda Fabia 1,2l 3-cyl gas. One wire for fuel injector was completely cut and some 7-8 another wires partially damaged in the same place.

MY 2000 is Passat B5 - different wiring layout, different materials used, mainly wires wrapped with tape, including looms fitted in corrugated tubes.
