Swapping the motor on a 2011 a3 tdi cbea. Got a donor cbea from an 09 Jetta. My old motor has this thermostat housing https://www.idparts.com/tdi-thermostat-03l121111ac-mahle-ti3387-p-7471.html and the coolant pipe meets the curved elbow on the housing

The replacement motor has this thermostat housing https://www.idparts.com/thermostat-housingcoolant-flange-a5-brm-cbea-p-2321.html and the coolant pipe enters a hole in the block at the housing

I cant use the original housing and coolant pipe because the hole in the block would be exposed. This means I'm missing the top elbow connection which needs to go to the hose that goes to the driver side of the head.

Any easy way to deal with this?

Hello,

If the two engine blocks are the same (CBEA) then why can you not swap or use the same parts from the original engine?

Maybe post some photos so we can 'see' what you are looking at. Also a VIN number would be helpful when trying to put things into perspective.

Thanks,

drpeter

I don't have first hand experience with your specific engine, however the thermostat mounting holes look the same as others, and the pipe entrance/location you speak of sounds like others as well. Long story short, i think this thermostat housing plug may solve your dilemma? The plug goes into the hole in the block next to the thermostat

Use the plug, and original housing and pipe.

Factory thermostat plug for a B6 Audi A4 1.8T just fyi. let us know if it ends up fitting.

Just verify that there is a threaded hole in the block around where the plug screw hole would be. If so i think you're golden
