Hi. I am trying to make sense of the codings in my 7H multivan 4motion.

In particular, I'd like to interpret the coding of the ABS module. This is needed because I am fitting a diff-lock and there is one bit in the ABS module that requires re-coding. However, the labels I have (shipped with VCDS) are in a CLB file which I cannot read since it is apparently encrypted. Many other files are .LBL files which are easy to read, but not this one.

Is it possible to have this CLB file unencrypted, that is, as a LBL file?

The file is precisely 7H0-907-37x-ABS.CLB, and I would like to have 7H0-907-37x-ABS.LBL.

Thank you

I'm not sure I understand how having a plain-text one would help you, because there is no coding info in that file at all.

Uwe, there are files for the MK25 and MK25E in which I can see codings for the different options in the ABS module.

For example, for the MK25E, there is the file 7H0-907-37x-ABS-A.LBL with contents:

Code:
;---------------------------------------------------
;
; coding information
;
;---------------------------------------------------
;
;
C00,Brake Electronics (J104) Coding (MK25 ABS/EDS AWD)
C01,Model/Wheelbase:
C02,+0000025 = Van with Short Wheelbase (PR-0E1)
C03,+0000026 = Van with Long Wheelbase (PR-0E2)
C04,+0000027 = Pickup/Cab with Short Wheelbase (PR-0E1)
C05,+0000028 = Pickup/Cab with Long Wheelbase (PR-0E2)
C06,
C07,Differential Lock:
C08,+0000512 = without Differential Lock for Rear Axle Transmission
C09,+0000000 = with Differential Lock for Rear Axle Transmission (PR-1Y4)
C10,
C11,Suspension I:
C12,+0007168 = 16" Suspension (PR-2E3)
C13,+0015360 = 17" Suspension (PR-2E4)
C14,
C15,Suspension II:
C16,+0000000 = Normal/Bad Road Suspension (PR-1BA/1BB/1BH/1BJ/2MF/2MG/2MK/2ML/2MQ/2MR)
C17,+0000128 = Sport Suspension (PR-1BV/2MD)
;
;
;---------------------------------------------------

where the bit that interests me is 512: diff lock. However, for my exact ABS module MK25E1, there is no such LBL file, and there is a CLB file instead.

AutoScan tells me the labels file for the module is precisely this CLB file.

I don't understant precisely what is this CLB file. But since it's a labels file, and the LBL file for the MK25E contains the codes, I supposed the CLB file contains them too, just encripted.

Anyway, what I am after is the codes for the MK25E1 module. Where can I find them? Are they the same as for the MK25E module (I guess not).

Your Coding should be with Diff-lock and there also no faults.
What is the problem ?

I never coded anything with the VCDS and therefore I am confused and a bit scared of doing something wrong. My guess is the following:

I have code 607 in the ABS module, currently.

I am replacing my rear differential with no diff-lock for a unit with differential lock. The codings for these two AWD modules are identical: 00002.

Therefore I only have to tell the ABS module that now I'll be having differential lock.

This seems to be done by setting the 512 bit to zero. So the new coding would be:

607 - 512 = 95.

My guess is that now I should code 95 in the ABS module.

Is this correct?

It shows the same information as if it was LBL file!
As you can see, it shows "Contact Ross-Tech"

Anyway, what I am after is the codes for the MK25E1 module.
It should be in erwin.
There could also coding in different "wiring shorts" to ABS connector, see WD.

Are they the same as for the MK25E module (I guess not).
No, if so, that LBL file could be used.

No that is not correct. See post #6

MK25E coding is not the same as yours MK25E1.
[22] coding 0000002 is with diff.lock, 0000001 is without.
Your car WV2ZZZ7HZ8H133087 from factory has diff.lock, PR-code 1Y4
Your [03] coding 0000607 is with diff.lock, like other Transporter with same equipment as yours is coded 0000607.

Again, is there a problem ?

OP are you sure your rear diff is a no diff lock version, the PR code for your car suggests otherwise...

Oh, thanks NETech, this is really helpful.

It seems that I do not have to change any coding then.

Up to now, there is no problem because I have not swapped differentials yet. I just wanted to make sense of everything before starting so that I do not do anything wrong. And after testing all the pieces the only thing that remained was determining whether my 03ABS needed recoding or not.

So thanks a lot.

PetrolDave, Indeed, it's a PR1Y4 . The thing is, the previous owner replaced the lockable diff by a non-lockable one. It seems though as when doing so he never recoded the ABS module to indicate that there was no longer a diff-lock.

Now I am just refitting a lockable diff on it to bring it back to factory specs.

I already plugged the lockable unit to the VCDS (just put it under the van and connect it) so that I could read the 00002 coding of the unit I want to install. Everything is fine:

Existing differential without diff-lock
Code:
Address 22: AWD        Labels: None
   Part No: 7H0 907 554 F
   Component: HALDEX 4Motion      2110
   Coding: 0000002
   Shop #: WSC 49856 001 1048576
   VCID: 33331D04772445EF045-5160

New differential with diff-lock
Code:
Address 22: AWD        Labels: None
   Part No: 7H0 907 554 F
   Component: HALDEX 4Motion      2110
   Coding: 0000002
   Shop #: WSC 02756 790 00000
   VCID: 33331D04772445EF045-5160

The doubts were on the ABS module but now I think all is clear. This module is responsible for enabling the diff-lock to engage if certain conditions are met at the time of depressing the diff-lock button: max speed of 40kmh, and max difference of wheel speeds L-R of 7kmh. This is why the ABS module needs to know whether diff lock is available or not. The coding I have is as so:

Code:
Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 7H0-907-37x-ESP.lbl
   Part No SW: 7H0 907 379 R    HW: 7H0 907 379 R
   Component: ESP MK25E1          0104
   Revision: 00H31001
   Coding: 0000607
   Shop #: WSC 02756 790 00000
   VCID: 44D14ED8228AF257ADF-5160

According to NETech this code 607 is normal for the MK25E1, that is it corresponds to units with diff-lock, so I will leave it as it is.

So it seems that all the coding is correct so I'll only have to carry out the mechanical work. The previous owner did not re-code the ABS module, so I should be fine if I just do not touch it.
