Wondering if it's possible to disable the door chime on a MK IV Golf. The car was t-boned yesterday on the driver's side. The door closes and locks, but the chime wont stop. Thanks in advance!

Wow, an Mk.4 with manual-crank windows. That's quite unusual.

I don't see any way to kill the door-chime in this car via the diagnostic API.

Thanks, Uwe. Yeah, crank-up windows and no sunroof, it was a lucky find. We bought it new, it's been Janet's daily driver for over 18 years and is still going strong. I've serviced the 01M with fluid and filter changes every 40K miles and it still shifts like new. Turns out that if I slam the door shut very hard it does stop chiming. Just have to really put a shoulder into the door to open it because of the damage.
Best, Paul

I don't suppose it's as simple as bypassing the courtesy light switch on that door is it (so the car thinks the door is closed)?
Or do modern cars pick up something from the locking mechanism?

"Modern" cars definitely get it from the locking mechanism.

But an Mk.4 is hardly modern, and I don't recall whether that car still has a separate switch or not. I don't think I've ever seen an Mk.4 with manual crank windows in the flesh either.

MK4 has door status (open/close) microswitch built-in in the door lock mechanism. The one outside the plastic "electric box". To bypass it is not necessary disassemble door, OP need WD and find what wire is it at CCM or at coupling station at A-pillar.
