Hi Everyone.

So while I wait for my verified status to come through I can ask here if anyone has experienced the same and can give me some pointers.

I have a 2006 model VW Caddy which basically is a mk5 golf with a big butt.
I bought my car second hand and it only came with one key with a remote control and one valet key.
I have since used my key insurance and have received a new keyfob from VW.

So here the fun begins.
Because I am either not able to follow the instructions or my car does not allow me to store a new value when adding (or removing) a immobilizer paired key.

I have used this guide: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer_IV_Key_Matching

I start VCDS and got to immobilizer

There I first use measuring blocks to verify my new key is ok.
It appears to be.
The value in field 3 is "Yes" while the value in the first field is "No" for the new key.
Both fields are "Yes" on the original keys.

Then I exit this menu and enter my PIN in the security menu. It is accepted.
I can now access the adaptation menu and look at address 01.
Here it states that I have 2 keys paired to my immobilizer system.
I can add one to a total of 3 and click 'save'.
"3" is now displayed in the new value field.

Instructions on this site then states I should use one key after another and turn the ignition on until the immobilizer icon in the instrument cluster goes out.
This happens with my two original keys, but my new key only make this icon blink.
As it should if the key was not programmed correctly.
So that didnt work.

I go back into adaptation menu to check and the total number of keys is still 2.
ok... I try to alter this to 1 and progam just one of my original keys.
Immo icon goes out and I can start my car with this key. But also with the other original key.
So I appearantly have not changed the immo adaptation at all.

I tried again but this time I exited the adaptation menu before trying to cycle the keys.
Same result.

Can anyone see something obvious I am doing wrong here?
Is VCDS not able to program my new key to my car this way?

I have since I bought it replaced the SWCM to a CH version (it used to be a 1K0 953 549 AE) and replaced the stalks while waiting for a upgraded cluster to arrive.
This shouldnt prevent the immobilizer system to be programmed should it?
I drive my car daily and now have cruisecontrol so those new parts seems to work as they should.

Battery voltage is a little low, might be worth charging the battery and trying again:

Battery voltage at least 12.0 V

Hey thanks for the suggestion.
I tried this exercise again today with a charger connected to the battery.
Unfortunately the result is the same.

If new key isn't learning and old ones are, then I see no ither issue than the key itself.

I would normally agree with you on this, but I was not able to program a single key either.
I tried to do so while troubleshooting.
Just for giggles and testing, but my other original key (the one *not* programmed) still worked after my first key was programmed in as the single key.
Leading me to think that I did something wrong in the process and have canceled the adaptation somehow.

DO NOT try this, unless some one confirms it is for keys... I seem to recall having to "delete" all keys or remotes before I could match mine... is that a KEY thing, or a REMOTE thing???

Hi Allan. Fancy seeing you here 👍😊
The problem is for the key and the immobilizer.
The remote part is programmed and working.

I see now, what You wrote.

I'm not native English speaker and as I understand it quite well, sometimes I miss stuff...again my bad.

What happens when You try to start with new key?
After trying to match only 1 key what does key count say in MVB.

Is Your known PIN code also accepted when You try to enter it in Engine Security Access?

I just clicked it was you :-)

For EITHER my Remotes or Keys, I had to delete them all first, which I think was an adaptation. I Just don't recall what it was for... someone will know though :-D

Using new key I get immo icon blinking and the car starts for about 1 second before the motor stops again.
The MVB still states 2 programmed keys even though I have saved "1" in the adaptation menu.

Yes my PIN is also accepted in 01-engine.

Glenlivet ftw! :)

I think I had to delete my original remote before I was able to program 2 new ones.
This was covered in some guide I followed, but I cannot recall the details atm.
But I believe I had to use 00 to reset all remotes and then 01 to program new ones.... Could it have been Cent.conv and adaptation..

That is probably what I was confused with. I remember making 3 keys for my car, but one isn't cut - the immo and remote works though.

Turns out I'm no help to you :-D

I said this so many times , 2006 and up VCDS can not program keys in Mk5 platform . I tried this 100 times and never worked.
Not even to delete old keys and program just one original key like OP trying to do .

It was my understanding that 2006 was a year where you have both immo4 and immo4c immobilizer. 4c is a no go with vcds but the older immo 4 should be programmable.
and that the way you distinguish between the two is the first letters in immo ID wvx/wvz.
My car being a wvz should be programmable.

Is this understanding false?

Could this be related to having no WSC number in VCDS???

Code:
Address 25: Immobilizer Labels: 1K0-920-xxx-25.clb
   Part No: 2K0 920 842 C
   Component: IMMO VDD 1012
   Shop #: WSC 00000 000 00000
   VCID: 290FFC1D05F3699FBE9-807C

No fault code found.

The other modules in the original autoscan all have WSC number in them.

This setup is very similar to my 2x 2006 Tourans - one early-ish, one late; and I can match keys to them, but I have WSC's in mine.

Could this be related to having no WSC number in VCDS???
I doubt it, but it couldn't hurt to put some random WSC, Importer, and Equipment Number values in on the Options screen in VCDS (User Interface & Identification tab), save them, and restart VCDS.

So it is not only WVX immobiliser, also later VWZ also?

I did many time mk5 after 2006.6, ofcourse i read Security Block, put Component Security to TP, then program with vcds.
Maybe i never came across WVX.
