I am having a bunch of troubles with my B6 1.8TQ and my trusted mechanic said he can't do anything about it... Looking for ideas before I start pouring more money into it...
Symptoms
1. Difficult to start. It cranks but it may take 5-10 cranks before the engine starts
2. Idle is not smooth... Its not rough, but it is not smooth either
3. Lack of power. The car does not run like it use to. E.g. For a steep upward slope that I used to drive with second gear, I now need to put the 1st gear, or the engine is on the brink of stalling.
Codes
17987 - Throttle Actuator: Adaptation Not Started
16725 - Camshaft Position Sensor: Implausible Signal
What has been checked/ tried
1. The mechanic has triple checked that the car is properly timed. The 16725 does not go away. Problems remain
2. We have tried two other camshaft position sensors. The 16725 does not go away. Problems remain
3. We have checked the wiring to the camshaft sensor. They are ok.
4. It is impossible to adjust the throttle body. Tried with the official audi diagnostic software (that is what they've told me. The dealer's electrician mechanic visited my mechanic.)
5. Replaced the throttle body. The 17987 does not go away. Problem remains.
6. Wiring to the throttle body also seems ok.
7. Fuel filter is brand new.
8. MAF sensor is clean
9. Fuel pump's pressure tested and it seems ok.
10. New coils and spark plugs are installed.
11. Cooling system works perfectly.
12. Checked the relays in the ECU compartment
13. Checked all fuses.
14. Battery is charged and in good health
What is yet to be explored
1. Some wires that go to the coils seems corroded... In the next round I will replace/ repair the harness that goes to the coils.
2. Could it be an ECU problem?
3. Replace fuel pump, just to be sure that it not sticking
If you have any ideas, please reply...
Thanks
