Good evening.
I got a call from my wife the other day stating that her car wouldn't start. I immediately got off work and went to see what the situation was. After attempting to start it, to no avail, we had it towed home.
I ran the following scan on it and saw the dreaded P0016 code populate, so there it sat as I have had zero time to work on it.
I'm not super concerned about the intake flap position sensor, as I've changed that intake 3 times so far and after about a year or so it fails. I tend to believe that's not the problem.
What worries me is the following:
000022 - Bank 1: CMP Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28)
P0016 - 000 - Incorrect Correlation - Intermittent - MIL ON
I know this engine has a tendency to throw the timing chain, but would that cause a no-start so abruptly. She claims the car was running fine before that and wasn't exhibiting any issues. The only idiot light that came on was the check engine, but that has been on for a while according to her, however, she didn't tell me because "she thought it was ok and just needed an oil change". Yeah ok, thanks, woman.
Anyway, wondering if any of you suspect anything else from this scan, aside from the infamous chain tensioner issues. If that is the problem, we will likely be getting rid of the car and moving on, as I don't have the capacity to fix it right now.
