Hi all,
Last week about half way through an 8 hour drive on the highway, my beloved TDI wagon's CEL came on. No noticed performance degradation, just the CEL. I scanned it as soon as I drove back to the house with my cheap little bluetooth reader and P2002 popped up. I then cleared it, but it came back on maybe 15 minutes into the next drive. Here is the Ross-tech wiki page for P2002.
So, I ordered up a real programmer- the Hex V2, and performed an auto scan with the below results.
I was hoping it would come up with another code related to the p2002 but no such luck. I had heard p2002 may be caused by the exhaust flapper pressure control valve being faulty, so I then performed an output test on it and verified it moving open and closed properly. No code came up for the flapper valve either so I think that is ok.
I then read the DPF related values while at idle, logged them(below), inspected the differential pressure sensor for loose wires and performed an adaptation because I figured why not.
The pressure sensor seems to be reading ok; reads 0 when not running and 3 at idle, moving higher/lower as I step on/off the gas pedal, and there isn't an accompanying code up for it, so I think I can rule that out.
I then performed a manual regeneration while driving and watched the temperatures jump up while driving down the highway in 5th keeping rpms between 2000 and 2500. The DPF light came on for the first time while regenerating and then went off after about 10 minutes once the calculated soot dropped from 11.1 to 1.2. I then pulled over, logged values and cleared the code. Then drove home and logged the soot load, and time since last regen(now 30kms). See below for log in the above order.
The below code came up again 15 minutes in the next drive.
What are the values in the freeze frame? Is there a problem with one of them?

What other tests can I do? What do you think is the problem? It doesn't look the soot levels before manual regen were very high and the regens looked to be happening correctly. It doesn't look like the tailpipe is super sooty but when I wipe my finger in there it does turn black. Do you think the DPF is cracked? If it should need replacing, should I replace the EGR filter along with it?
