Hi All,

I have an A3 with a CBBB engine (170 CR) that has 148k miles on it. Car is always serviced by a main dealer, and run on premium diesel.

As a bit of background, I have previously had the injector in cylinder 1 fail twice. As part of the troubleshooting, the injectors got swapped around, so the second time that the injector failed, it was an original one that got replaced, rather than the new one. The car runs OK generally, but the idle is not always smooth. Also at low engine speeds, the engine does sound quite "tractory", but settles at higher RPM's. I have been told that this is to be expected for a car with that mileage on it.

I was also told by Audi that the DPF was totally full of ash and needed replacing. I had it cleaned using a Tunap dealer locally (I definitely recommend this, the car runs so much better since). I read that excessive ash can cause this sensor to fail.

The other day when cruising on the motorway, the car came up with this error:

So a few questions about this please.

1. Is it the sensor in question shown here? (this engine bay is a skoda fabia rather than an A3, but has the same engine): https://imgur.com/a/lLMqTdW

2. Before I try to remove it and swap it out for a new one, can anyone help me with measuring the values off it? Are there any measuring blocks I can query that would give me more figures than the above?

3. What measurements would indicate that the sensor has failed please?

Ideally if things are pointing to the sensor, I would just buy a bosch sensor online and fit it, rather than take it to my independant specialist...they would charge me VAG retail price for the sensor, as well as fitting. Swapping the sensor would probably be a third to half of the price of booking the car in.

Thanks in advance for any responses and advice!

That is the correct sensor location, mine failed at 190K miles on my CBAB. Sensor can be had for a good price from euro's, fitting takes about 5 minutes to do yourself. My car was noticeably better to drive once replaced
