Hi All,

Got this vehicle in as non start after been involved in an accident and its been now repaired but, the new owner doesn't know what was damaged as its been bought from the auction so can't explain more about the damage......

Scanned vehicle and had Crash Shut-Down Activated faults in few modules managed to clear them by using the basic settings but, the one in Address 8C: Hybrid Battery (J840) can't be cleared as there is no security access code in drop bar for basic settings I have tried 20103 which does accept but, when I select basic settings option it says (Not Running).

Can please any one help with the right security code or, any way to clear this fault code, please see the attached full scan below.....

1st thing is you need to fully charge the battery! Everything is pointing to a very low voltage on the battery. Dont even bother running diagnostic scans when you have a low battery or at least use a battery maintainer.

Who repaired the car?

As its a hybrid, 99.9% chance is the HV system has been shut down by VW tech as its standard procedure for a HV car thats been in an accident. Safety procedures for anyone working on the car and usually its by someone who hasnt got a clue about HV systems and its dangers.

ODIS has shut down and reactivation procedure for the audi/VW hybrids, not sure if VCDS has it.

I am not sure who repaired it, VCDS could de active in all other modules only in this 8C Hybrid Module could not run the basic settings as I said the 20103 security code was accepted in all other module and also could run the basic settings and it did clear the fault codes but, only in 8C Hybrid module could not run the basic settings..

Been through that procedure with ODIS on a 2018 Audi A3 e-tron, which has essentially the same drivetrain. There was nothing wrong with the car, we just wanted to understand what ODIS was doing. Well ODIS runs you through an crazy number of checks and tests ("CYA"). In the end, what actually shuts down the hybrid battery is not some mysterious thing that the scan tool does, but rather pulling the little plug on the 12V control circuit to the battery's contractor. Guess what re-activates it? Yep, re-inserting that plug.

Oh, and without sufficient power from the 12V system, the contactor cant close even with the plug in place.

Yes exactly but i didnt want to say that about the little connector plug as dealing with HV systems one never knows how a certain individual might approach these systems. Ive see them with the fuse pulled and the main HV connector to the battery removed as well.
