    Air Conditioning Hissing issue

    Hi team,

I have just started to use my AC as its getting hotter down under. Noticed my AC isn't blowing as it did last year and has this hissing sound coming out of the central vents. The adjusting the vent results in +- noise levels. Only driver/window side vent is sending cold air. Its strange as dual climate can send heat to both sides (passenger /driver) but degraded cold air only to drivers vent. Scan below is from the weekend and it shows no issues. Compressor it self is not sounding terrible / or making any noises, only inside cabin one of the vents.

I've been quoted $180 to recharge gas, but I'm thinking the gas is there , problem could be of another nature.

Please if anyone has any ideas? Thanks in advance

You need to evac. and recharge to see if your refrigerant level is correct.

I'm just wondering what can VCDS read and is there a starting point what should be checked in Test Output under the 08 HVAC module. How to start?

You can see from the data that the control valve is getting all the amperage it is requesting and you are at roughly 140psi which is low for the high side pressure when the compressor is running. Uneven vent temp is common with low pressure in the system. The gas is there just not enough of it. If the system is under-performing checking Freon should be the first step. I don't know your location but $180 to evac and recharge the system seems a little high, unless you are at the dealership, at least for Florida but nothing crazy.

Thanks Josh, thanks for the interpretation of the results. I was unsure that I needed a re-gas as it was only done year ago when control valve got replaced.
This would suggest I have a leak somewhere?

The compressor valves crap out pretty often too.

If you're going to evac and refill, I'd order the valve (I got mine from RKX Tech) and take off the undertray before going in. Changing the valve is only about 5 minutes, after the gas is out, then Vac down and refill as normal. Both my 2006 Tourans had faulty valves last year, one at 125K kms, and the other at 170K kms but it'be been faulty a while before we got that car.

I do control valves weekly on PXE16 compressors and have been doing so for years. I'm in Florida and it's AC season almost year round. I've used the RKX branded ones and I don't feel they are any better than all the others on the market. They're all Chinese manufactured parts. I usually get 1 in 20 that's a dud from the get go. Also, he said the control valve was just replace a year ago but this doesn't sound like a control valve concern. Usually the service valves leak and freon is lost. Especially the 8E0 820 855 large sized schraders with the purple seal. Find someone that will evac and recharge. I'd do it for a six pack on a Friday.

Just a quick update team: recharged the AC and its working just fine. No leaks engine side. Possibly wall side.
For now good enough. Not worth digging further this season as labor involved it expensive. Thanks for all the info and healthy advice from all.
