Unable to perform SRI

Hi, Gremling here,
Last evening I tried to help out a friend with his VW Jetta, 2011 1,6 tdi, it had just been to service at a Toyota dealer/workshop ( we do not have a VAG dealer within a few hundre km). Anyway, the Toyota workshop, and also I was unable to reset the Service Reminder Indicator. Using my HexNet-V2 (VCDS) I got the message in my vag that the control module (for SRI system?) was not initialized. Tried to use the default values, to no avail. Tried according to a wici ross link, that also to no avail. Owner have had the car in for software update, regarding the environmental issue, at VAG workshop, prior to this service. He said last time the mentioned Toyota workshop also did the service, and that time they did not get problems resetting SRI. Any advices or tips?

Will post scan later today, tomorrow or monday, unable to do so now

If you are still using VagCom I suggest uppdating to VCDS release 19.6 for a start... and the SRI performance may be different to a Jetta I 161 (launched 1979 in europe) or a Jetta 1K3 (launched 2010) or other models in between...

Its a 2011 1,6 tdi (although VIN has the C as 10th digit -> 2012.

Have tried to, in the following order, and with test run in between:
Reset SRI with Hexnet-V2 (VCDS), software version 19.6.0.6 (Have just gotten the 19.6.1 and installing it now, but scan has been done.
Have tried to reset with a Delphi box / PC (but of course I prefer the VAGCom,
Have tried the 0,0 Button followed by sign on, then the square Button and ignition of checked oil Says 1500km 731 days.
Have tried to do it via MFD panel, service reset
The symbol (looks like a spanner, if you have a good imagination) keeps coming back after a few km of driving.

Fault code for Trailer has now been cleared, and was caused by worn replaced battery. Auto GB has been changed or overhauled previously, and i have now deleted fault code

OK, so that's a UDS cluster.

Current versions of VCDS should allow you to use the SRI Reset button on that. It will give you some options for "NAR only" (or something like that) but they actually do work world-wide.

Worst case, post a Adaptation Channel Map.

Have tried all above tip for SRI reset, no difference, car is driven for a few km, and maintenance spanner comes up again (alternating spanner and gear indicated).

Since this type of problem with his car started after the environmental upgrade, I have told my friend to take car back to the VAG workshop, where upgrade was done. I do not believe they will be much helpful there, as they are known for being both greedy and arrogant, but one never knows, they have just gotten a few new in management.

Just laying this down here...
Start VCDS, click on [SRI Reset], VCDS goes in and gathers data... user selects what action they want to perform from the drop down menu at the top of the screen. For a UDS like OP's case, it is always safe to select the "Reset FIX & ESI" option as shown below:

All UDS clusters have the ESI option, but not all early UDS clusters have the FIX option, so VCDS will try and get a report back from the cluster along the lines of vales could not be saved since it doesn't know what FIX means.

Once a selection is made from the drop down menu, click on [Perform SRI] at the bottom to have the request carried out.

If one wants to go in an manually reset the service on a UDS cluster, you can follow the example shown on our wiki site for the 7P Touareg (it is all the same):

Tried, all the above, no luck, drives car a few km and spanner shows up again.

Seems like a module will not take/handle commands properly. When using VCDS and
In control module 17 i see:
Oil quality good
Oil service done 1050km ago
Max dist to next service 14050

Hi Gremling,
Have you actually tried resetting the SRI via Instrument (17) and adaptions? I do not have problems doing, Reset warning to not active, make sure the mileage and distance for oil change is zero, change the mileage and distance since inspection to zero.

That would probably not be particularly helpful. We need to see the state it's in where you "Can't Reset" it.

Yes HMC, have tried it, I filled in km and time from last service to actual km and days, filled oil quality to good etc. It is only in this specific car this has been a problem. As stated earlier, have used several methods and different types of computer systems to reset SRI. All indications we get is issues with module for SRI is not initialized, which again. started to act up after the environmental software upgrade performed on car at VAG dealer workshop.
Prior to the software upgrade, there has never been issues resetting SRI on this car.
