hi! n00b here, so please bear with me. been a tech for volvo for a long time, so I know enough to know when i'm up to no good
here is an auto scan:
what I am chasing here is a gauge issue. seems my coolant and possible fuel gauge steppers are a bit wonky. both gauges appear to be reading "proud" of the centerline after running the output tests. both are about a needles width to the right of the center mark during the test.
i'm not afraid to blow the cluster open and replace the steppers....been there done that with volvo's…
it would appear to me that this car DOES NOT have immobilizer capabilities. in ch 25 (iirc) it wouldn't communicate.
million dollar question (2 actually)
1) good place to get the steppers? I see them as low as 5.00 and as high as 100+. not being cheap, it never works for me....best place to get them.
2) local junk yard has a same vintage TT. I can get the cluster out of that for a cheap price (and will, because murphys law has it I will snap a pointer)
if I were to plug in said mystery cluster, what are the ramifications of doing so? my concern is the mileage may jump, or I could simply let the smoke out. I know mileage (on volvo's) is stored in several other modules so plugging in a cluster can overwrite mileage. I don't want to run that risk, but would like to plug in the used cluster to see if it works (again, I 100% intend on using my original cluster and the used one would be for messing around with)
please and thank you
