Hi everyone, I've spent a substantial amount of time now trying to figure this out and I could do with some experience to help me get this sorted.
So the car is a 2003 Audi A4 Avant 8E fwd version with the 190PS BEX engine. I've uploaded a photo of the PR-Build here: PR codes
As far as I'm aware the car is currently stock with no mods. Here is the full scan as of an hour ago:
The engine codes have only just popped up so I'll be getting to those in due course but the ABs is giving me the biggest headache at the moment.
Ever since I got the car the ESP light would come on and off intermittently - mostly on then the ABS light started showing up. As I didn't have a VCDS cable I took it to a garage a couple of weeks ago to get it scanned and asked them to take a look. Their reader was giving faults for the two front ABS sensors. I asked them to replace them and they swapped them over for two Bosch ones.
Here's where a bunch more problems started happening, CEL light came on and the dash would occasionally start warning ABS fault - take to an AUDI service center or something along those lines. At this point the speedo died as well. I started doing a load more reading and got a used ABS control module for £20 and ordered a VCDS cable from ilexa.
I swapped out the ABS module, recoded it with my fancy new cable, recalibrated the steering angle sensor then cleared the codes - started the engine and everything appeared to be working, I drove about 20m down the road before all the lights came back.
Before having the VCDS cable it was a bit of a scatter gun approach to trying to get this fixed, I'm hoping now you guys will be able to help me get this sorted properly.
I've still got the old ABS module, and this new(er?) one I've tried measuring the wheel speed sensors for all 4 wheels on short test drives, this makes the car do some very weird things and kick in the esp. I can't quite tell if its just stopping the throttle or applying the brakes at this point. I took the front left wheel off, removed the sensor and cleaned the end of it and checked the reluctor ring, it seems solid and unbroken but there's a fair amount of corrosion on it. I've taken a video of me spinning the hub:ABS reluctor ring vid
Can anyone shed some light on the codes i'm getting for the ABS sensor and the best things to check? It's pretty annoying not having the speedo on the car and would like to get this running properly again. The garage said the wheelspeed sensor/ABS sensor are two different parts on the end of this cable, how does the wheel speed sensor work for this car?
Next on my to do list is:
Recheck abs sensor wiring through wheel arch
Recheck connections to ABS unit
Look at the brake pedal sensor (very recent problem and not shown on previous scans)
Check wiring of N75 boost pressure regulator/replace
I'd love to hear some input on this before throwing a bunch more money at this willy nilly!
