Have a 2005 AXX engined golf gti.
Cylinder 4 is misfiring. Constantly.
What I have done so far:
changed coils around plugs around, follows cylinder
checked triggering of coil and injector, all TOK with my test probe
replaced injector
checked wiring back to ecu for coil and injector-ok
compression test done, all cylinders 190+/_ 5 PSI
checked cam timing, replaced camshaft adjuster unit
replaced cam sensor
Engine still misfires on cylinder 4.
at idle the following measured values are:
091 cam adjustment bank 1=39-42%, specified KW =24.0, actual =23.5. 39-42% at idle seems high?
093 phase position bank 1 intake=-1.0kw
203 Ign timing, is all lover the place +18ATDC to -4 BDC, not sure if this is because it is running on 3 legs?
Throws no error codes apart from misfire.
Do not know what is going on and have run out of ideas

John please post an auto-scan!

How about ground for coil and is current present at coil not just voltage?

Is there a multiplicative air leak at idle at #4 zyl?

Is car FOD modified?

Hi John,
This is really a job for an oscilloscope, do you have one? If you have, scoping the powers and signals on the injector and HT coil will give you an idea where the problem lies. As Jack say's check for an air leak at cylinder 4 inlet, any vacuum pipe joining the inlet manifold at cylinder 4 inlet? Any noises, are the valves opening correctly?
Regards HMC

Sticking valve I wonder? Did you pay attention to carbon buildup in the ports when you had the intake manifold off?

Before you run out for a Georgie Pie, please post the Auto-Scan! Would be nice to see if the misfires happen with a cold engine.

Also, do a Fuel Rail Pressure Test.

One last thing I'll toss onto the table... Key on, engine off, connect to the ECM and then issue the clear codes request 5 times in a row as fast as you can, exit out of the ECM, shut ignition off... drink L&P, restart engine.

I find re-coding or clearing adaptions is easier than hoping to rely on a DTC reset command & that may or may not completely work within the ECU.

0x01-07-recode

0x01-10-000 save reset clear defaults.
