2010 A4 2.0T w/multiple issues; ESP/TPMS/Parking Brake Malfunction

Hello all, I've been trying to pinpoint the issue affecting my Avant lately. Seems the problem has gotten worse over time. I can clear codes, then drive for a minute or two before my gauge cluster lights up with ESP, TPMS, and then the Parking Brake malfunction. If I shut down the car, restart, and drive over 34mph, the lights turn off only to illuminate while I begin to slow down.

I've run a full scan to show you what is being found. Some info upfront, I am fully aware about my engine code P1297. My turbo does have an issue with the wastegate, seems to still produce sufficient boost at all times. I'm putting that repair off till I figure out what's causing everything to light up everytime my car is driven.

The lean code P2187 is relatively new, that one popped once I completed a carbon cleaning--I 'think' I can figure that one out eventually. More likely my injectors, I've searched for air leaks using the C&C spray method, looked at the PVC diaphragm, MAF, tubing...you get the point.

With the the engine at idle and up to temp (+80C), go into the OBDII mode of VCDS. Go to Mode 1. Now pull up long term fuel trim and short term fuel trim. What are the values?

MAF concern (possible)... is there any sort of aftermarket air filter? Or has the car been detailed/cleaned recently? These are things that can contaminate the MAF.

Sounds like a fuel problem or air leak no, how is it, that it would only post these limited faults and no misfire, is car modified?

Does car need any fuel pumps or injectors, if it did and wasn't FOD than wouldn't it all be a free repair according the comprehensive parts list as certified at CARB and EPA?

I am out of the extended warranty AoA published a while back, that was a 7yr/70K mile warranty on the turbo. I tried my luck at the dealer and was quickly shot down, if i was still living in Utah, I might have had a chance since I had a solid rapport with the SA.

No, sorry--I didn't JPPSG.

I'm not sure if it's 100% a fuel issue or an air leak, as mentioned, I did look things over and did some basic troubleshooting. The thing here is, would a fuel delivery/air leak issue drive all 3 lights to illuminate?

The car does have a stg 1 APR tune (91 file), it was flashed in 2014 and haven't had any issues till now. The only misfires I can recall were last year when I had a coil pack fail, then this year I had intake manifold runner position fail (huge air leak), and then February when my timing jumped about 4 teeth due to the failed tensioner. All sourced parts were OEM and it was insanely expensive.

Did you know that your extended warranty was to 15/150K for the turbo as certified but arguably tuning it voided it?

I wasn't aware that the extended warranty carried that far. Audi B8 owners are still getting rejected/denied service when they are well under that cap, even with bone stock vehicles. I knew that when I chose to flash the ECU with a program, I'd be taking a risk. When I got ahold of my Avant, it already had 83K miles on it--surprised they even performed the stg II oil consumption repair.

Honestly, no, I wouldn't be surprised if they developed some off the wall programming that would be considered abnormal by other auto makers.

I'll see what I can do about that JPPSG, need to figure that one out :confused:

Not good. I would say CCV or rear main seal as my first guesses. You might want to see about having the crank case smoke tested... blow smoke down the dipstick tube, and see if smoke comes out of the trans bell housing.

Not good. I would say CCV or rear main seal as my first guesses. You might want to see about having the crank case smoke tested... blow smoke down the dipstick tube, and see if smoke comes out of the trans bell housing.

And what would cause such a thing to happen, oh no FOR shame all this induced FOD?

Jef, thanks for the suggestions. I'll see about getting a smoke test done. I did visual on top and underneath my engine, saw no evidence of an oil leak at the eng/trans mating point or even previously after looking at the belly pans. Still though, the smoke test should point out a failure of the RMS. If that comes back good, guess I can see how much vacuum there is at the dipstick.

Your original question asked why the abs, Tpms, handbrake, lights are coming on. And you will fix the engine fault later, but I would suggest all your other lights are just due to the fuel trim fault and the modules all sharing the fact that there is a fault somewhere.

The crank case ventilation system and how it works at idle would be what I’d look at next. After a smoke test. As trim is as previously noted is high at idle.
What makes you think there is a fault with the actual turbo?
