Hi there

I recently bought a VCDS to troubleshoot a heating issue we have with our car (Audi A4 B8 8K 2014 Quattro).

The car doesn't overheat, so I don't think it is the water pump (although my mechanic mate reckons they tend to fail quite a bit). I think it could be the heater control valve (or also known as a stop coolant valve)... This is the error code I captured last night from the VCDS:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for the second part of my question. I looked into the plenum chamber for the valve and noticed the following part code (4H0 121 671D). Based on my google search, this part seems to relate to the N82 rather than the N422 (even though the VCDS error highlight N422). Are they the same and has anyone dropped in the 4H0 121 671D to fix a faulty N422?

Thanks in advance!

N422 and N82 seem to reference the same valve: "Certain vehicles without an auxiliary heater (optional equipment) were fitted with vacuum-actuated coolant shut-off valves from the start of production onwards (depending on engine). At a later date, shut-off valves with direct electric activation were gradually introduced. Depending on the engine version and the production period, these valves may be designated Climatronic coolant shut-off valve - N422- or coolant shut-off valve - N82-."

4H0121671D looks like the part one would expect to find in 2014 A4 as N422/N82. So my guess would be that it's indeed the right choice as replacement.

Thanks Mika_M. I know it has taken this long for me to reply but I wanted to confirm in this post/forum that purchasing a new 4H0121671D fixed the heating problem in my A4. Hot tip: I can validate that this part is significantly cheaper through VW than Audi (from memory, it was around 30%-40% cheaper, but I'm trying remember the cost savings back in 2019). Note: I'm sourcing other parts at the moment and asked VW for a quote, and unfortunately the quote I received for a braking component seemed to align with Audi's quote now :(.
