I get random (only) #1 cylinder misfire codes, always 2 of them. Engine starts and runs great, reading on fuel injected ridiculous and never changing for #1 injector. I have cleaned connections at injector before and ordered new harness this time. Is CPU failing? Mostly just irritating having to clear codes... Thanks. Sorry if I didn't get the scan inside code thingy properly.

Did you check lifters & set lash of injector to cam clearance?

Yes I have checked cam and lifters and they appear fine. The lash is set at app. 210-220 degrees back from bottom. The compression was 410, 412, 405, and 408 1-4 respectively. Leak down on #1 good. I had misfire codes a few years ago which started ye olde can of worms until I realized it was all due to crappy wires/connectors. Same with glow plugs. Hoping a new harness will correct misfire misfires... I am curious about injection quantity Deviation stuck at 2.99 mg/str ??????? It didn't used to say that, say last year when I did some scans. Thanks for assistance.

The Bentley book gives a complicated and problematic method for setting the PD injector clearances. The method is to use a dial indicator mounted onto the rocker, then rotate the engine until the full depth of the stroke is reached. Screw in the adjustor screw until it bottoms out. Then back it out 180 degrees. Tighten the ball screw lock nut to 24 ft lbs. VW did standardize the setting for all PD motors for a 180 degree setting.
Others have indicated that slightly over the 180 degree setting was fine and even suggested by VW. Just prevents bottoming out injector...

Well you have a mechanical which is off, your harness is damaged or maybe check your cam belt and mechanical cam timing and see if you have a broken key-way or virtual key-way by press fit........

As I mentioned I am hoping it is just the wiring harness. That should arrive in a few days from IDParts. Hard to believe it's something mechanical since it runs well... Thank you for your time and help though. Much appreciated. Belt and water pump replaced soon after I bought car in 2014 or 15 as it had 225k miles and last replaced about 100k according to maintenance records. It gets 43 mpg on highway.

Yeah well I had a bunch of guys in the past that swore off the mechanical's and low and behold each time it was indeed the issue..........

Thanks Jef. Do you see all replies? I wasn't sure if you are included in my replies to Jack. As far as cam belt timing, I thought I read 0 degrees in "Torsion Value" was "best". Mine is -1.7? Seems to run fine but always room for improvement... Also, I am guessing that the misfire code is actuated by an electrical signal so a mechanical should not cause? Hence my efforts to replace wiring harness. Not certain how the magic black box is getting it's information. ;) Thanks.

I am not included in such emails and I dont want to be.....

Fix the inaccurate cam timing already...........
