Problems seeing Module 53 options on a Touareg

I am using VCDS release 19.6.1 on Windows XP.

I was looking to retract the brake linings on a 2014 Touareg 7p, so entered module 53 Parking brake, Basic settings. The only options I got was

Static current measuring mode
Air gap calibration
Electromechanical parking brake erase activation counter
Lamp Test
Reset start up
Setze Einschleif-Zustand

Its UDS protocol. Why cant I see the option to retract or replace the parking brake linings.

I have tried this on my A7 and I can see the options to retract and change the brake linings.

No, a 7P Touareg definitely has a 53-Parking Brake module. But... It's a totally different animal than most EPB systems. Instead of using the the service brake's pads, it uses a set of dedicated brake shoes for the parking brake. These press outward against the interior of the rotor like a conventional drum brake. Have a look at the pictures here.

This means you can change the disc pads without every touching the parking brake. However, if you change the rotors, then air-gap adjustment and griding-in will probably be required. See also the Wiki article Santos linked to above.

Thank you Uwe and everyone else. I have read the notes and watched the video and it appears that you don't go into basic settings on address 53 to retract the epb, but instead go into the Output test to "open calliper", do the work and then "close calliper" (meaning the motor for the shoes). This in-turn will produce a fault code which can only be cleared when the grinding process is done. Can someone confirm that my thinking is correct?

My next thought is why cant I just remove and replace the discs without touching retracting the epb shoes. I should be able to do this given there is an airgap. I will of course have the risk of the epb activating whilst the disc is removed, but removal will only be for about 20 seconds.

Dare I try to remove the disc without isolating the epb. MMM! You thoughts would be appreciated.

Why would the EPB activate while you've got the disk off?

If you're replacing the disks, you might have to adjust the air gap and do the grinding in through, but personally, I would try it without and see what happens.
