Hello everyone,
I know it happens quite often as i have looked over the forums and seen plenty of noob questions on here but im pretty stuck. I have done alot of work to my 2010 Gti and could use some help with diagnosing where i went wrong here.
First off i purchased my Gti from a man who worked at a dealership but sold the car to me privately. (should have known there was something fishy there). i knew there was an issue but i never suspected all of this trouble to come about. After researching the best VW mechanic in the entire area of Seattle, I immediatley brought the car to a nearby "Volkswagen Specialist" shop. This mechanic had outstanding reviews and was also recommended by a few friends of mine. He was quick to diagnose the problems i had with my engine and vehicle and i ended up needing new Timing Chains, highpressure fuel pump and a rear main seal. My subframe was also cracked so after charging me $3500 dollars to do all of this i had to wait about 3 weeks before i could afford to get my car back from the shop. I finally got the money together and figured my baby would be ready to rock!!... But unfortunately not even 24hrs later my Gti's engine "seized" while i was driving completely normal doing about 35 mph down a hill on Roxbury. I was at the top of the hill when all of a sudden i went to go to 4th gear from 3rd and the car just shut off. NO power, NO nothin. Since i was on a hill, i tried quickly compression starting in 3rd once and then 2nd gear one time and failed to get it started so i pulled over and called triple A. I popped the hood thinking maybe a battery issue and i could smell what smelt like burning wires maybe. TRiple A checked the battery and tried jumping but car wouldnt do anything. I hadnt even drove the car very much at all for that 20 hour period nor did i drive aggressivley or "slam gears" like some people like to refer to it. So i did what any normal person would and had the car towed back to the "Volkswagen Specialist" to see what had happened. When i came in the next day, he told me that i needed to start looking for a new engine because the current motor "seized" When i asked him how exactly had the engine seized he said that he didnt know but he would help me replace it after i bought another and also informed it wouldnt be very cheap Irritated i decided to tow my car to my newly rented home w/garage and diagnose this engine failure myself as i could not afford anymore crazy shop fees. The motor wouldnt turn by hand so i decided to pull it and i found that the inspection window for the timing chains was never replaced and there was oil all around this area.

So after This discovery i proceeded to look for a used engine online. I found the perfect engine and decided to go hear it run as this was possible because the engine was still in the 2013 jetta. Everything sounded great engine started right up and purred so nicely but also found out the car was a lil newer so it was a cbfa instead of my ccta. looking further into it i seen the only significant difference was SAI (right?) and decided to pull the engine and pay the man selling it $1k.
When i did the swap, i used the new high pressure fuel pump that was replaced in my ccta. i also used a SAI blockoff plate where it bolts to the engine and also used the old ecm from my ccta cause i figured it does not have the SAI in the firmware so no worries there and wiring should match up to these nearly identical engines, correct?. the turbo also had to be switched out so it would fit the downpipe and i decided to use the ccta tranny as well because the cbfa had junkyard markings on the case. i figured if purchased at the junkyard and replaced it had already been in two total cars so why not just use the one thats only been in one other car and never swapped. i also replaced clutch assembly, pressure plate oil, oil filter, coolant, and lost my transponder key in the process so i tried having a locksmith come and make a new one and im almost positive he messed up my instrument cluster whilst doing so. so i have only a key to turn engine and from what i know i should be able to get the car to run for 1 second until immobilizer shuts off. my goal was to get that accomplished before i shelled out another $260 for a key from VW. Do i have to replace cluster as well? I know this is a lot to take in but imagine how i feel i have been studying this since March lol. Any help is appreciated. Here is my Auto - Scan:
