Praveen here, bought a VCDS scan tool recently and posting for the first time.

I have received a Audi Q5 2010 model year car with the following fault code i.e. P17D8 00 (040)

would like to know if there is any other further details that I can get from the VCDS about the excessive clutch temperature or should it possibly be one of the clutches that has failed and causing the high temperature.


Also is it possible to drill down into further details as to which of the clutches is causing the problem.

Transmission problem, torque restriction due to clutch temperature

Hello,

Posted a issue at the wrong place, I have got a Audi Q5 which display a fault code about torque restriction due to clutch temperature high, how do I proceed further on the issue, is there any further diagnostics that can be done through VCDS to pin point the source of problem, like degradation of oil causing high temperature, or to find out if one of the clutches is really slipping or worn out. Or which of the two clutches could be causing the problem.

Copied below is the scan report of this car, deleted the fault code once but cropped up again after about 100 kilometers.

in additional to Mr.Jack Fluid level and cooler system needs to be correct and working so confirm this is ok if not fix that first, if not; next step is to replace the VB Printed circuits with updated/revised replacements, for the old ones may have faulty internal contact causing this code, also fluid contamination possibly damaged components, it will require to you remove mech unit and install circuits using correct procedures, they're are many TSB for the 8040 symptoms code.

Hi and welcome.

For future reference, we much prefer a complete Auto-Scan rather than just data from the one module that you think has a problem.

There is a measuring value for clutch temperature:

ENG113295 -- Temp_clutch (°C)

You may want to do a reality check on this -- let the car sit overnight, then check it without starting the engine. At that point, I would expect it to be within a few degrees of ambient. Assuming this is OK, I would clear the fault and try to see under what circumstances the clutch temperature becomes excessive.

Will first check the basics as suggested, fluid level, fluid quality, and the temperature logged when the warning sounds and then revert if I require further clarification.
Will also post a complete auto scan tomorrow.
