Bracket change is a must. Completely different bracket MK70 vs. MK60 vs. MK60EC1.
But that is really really easy. Lift the front end of the car up. Remove passenger side wheel and remove the inner wheel arch. Now you have a very good access to remove the ABS bracket nuts from below.

And like langers2k wrote, the wires need to be correct way around. If you want to be completely sure, you can login to erwin, buy one hour and print all the ABS wiring diagrams for your car. Also at the same time you can print out abs pump remove and installation, bracket removal and installation and brake pipe replacement guides from workshop manual section.

What comes to coding, again what langers wrote. Just google for autoscans from mk6 Golfs. The biggest gripe is that part of the cars VIN is embedded into the ABS coding, so you cannot just copy and paste the codes. Google for eng-mk60ec1.xpl label file. It's an unofficial label file but it has the VIN positions correct so you can paste an existing long code to lcode.exe, open this label file and then change the VIN parts to match your cars VIN numbers. Then copy and paste that lcode to the ABS pump.
It is quite easy to make a working EC1 lcode nowadays. The bytes are quite well documented.

I did start to collect a long of long codes from various forums :)

So i finally was able to extract an mk5 mk70 asr connector... looks like i don't need an 'extra' power run as it has the same number of pwr and grounds as an mk60ec1 unit :)

Edit: just noticed that the crimps are different on the two connector... dang. One step forward, and 19 back.

guess ill be doing one of these (less that extra cable)

The crimp terminals are 99% likely to be something you can buy off the shelf at your favourite nerd shop (RS, Element14/Farnell, etc)

You'd probably be amazed at how generic and avaible the VW electrical bits are - RS even had the 121 pin ECU connector for my engine ECU - the board mounted ECU side of it!

MCP, Timer/Junior Timer (TE, Tyco branded etc) and some other ones I can't recall after only 1 coffee.

You'd have to buy a decent W crimping tool too, but it's a more reliable/tidier solution.

Thanks. I do have a w crimper already... I can check for the what standard these connectors have.. I'd MUCH rather like to recrimp my current MK70ASR plug to an MK60 one, and plug that directly into the EC1 unit! The power and ground connectors are pretty big so it's easy, the others are very small to start fking around unbending and rebending them.

I'm also uncertain of how to search for these connectors, as I have no clue what their name is, and haven't seen anything where someone refers to these by name AND visually at the same time. I'll have a look at the list you have :)

My friend also has a golf 6 wagon, mt, 2.5L with a 60EC1 unit in his car with hill hold and same size brakes, I can use his coding as a baseline for mine :)

I also just finished my retrofit for my mk6 flat mfsw in my car with the classic "CH" control module and an upgrade to a '7N0' canbus, and most of the buttons work :)

Edit: aliexpress sell complete connectors with terminals/etc... lol, of course they do!

Not the right connectors, but their types made me laugh:

Well,

found out that the connectors for the MK60EC1 plugs are N10335807, got 20 from ECS tuning @ 1$ each. I'm sure they're available in bulk from some other place, but I needed to get other things at ECS and bump the cart up for free shipping :)

This company sells custom length/connector wires for VW/Audi platforms, which cued me on the connector number:

95% of VAG wiring stuff is TE brand, Tyco Electronics.

I have been trying hard to match the VAG OEM crimp pins part numbers to the "real" Tyco part numbers, as the OEM are stupidly expensive for the very same product.

no luck so far except for just a few entries :(

That job has been already done by others. Just one example: https://www.drive2.com/l/10293438/

Side note: I lived in the same apartment block with the author of this article and owner of that highly retrofitted black Q7, saw the car everyday but didn't know any better. Would have been an interesting conversation with the owner...

Heading back to the junkyard (again),

this time hunting for that darned lower abs braket (1K1614235E - 12 models, 571 variants between 2009 and 2019) and brake lines.

The two of the 'top' ports are different sizes, the 'side' ports seem to be the same.

MK70ASR (still in my rabbit)

I havent measured my rabbit unit yet, but if it's the same as this below one, the two 'top middle ports' are inverted.

You need to code it , and then use security access and do basic setting without exiting the abs module. Then it will save it.

Nice, with the adapter or moved the wiring to the new plug for Mk60?
