    MK4 key matching issues

    so recently i have tried to program a new cluster in my car. i have the SKC for the cluster. i have replaced the immo chips in all of my keys. when i enter the skc in the login it does not give any alarm. i have checked the measure blocks 22 and 23 to make sure all keys show "new". when i try to enter the number of keys i want to program it comes right away with error in the box after i change the number. i have 6 keys total (4 switch blade and 2 valet) all 6 new chips. also when i try to adapt the fobs (cause only one i have is correct) i enter 4 as the number of remotes to program it changes it to a 2 and then the save button becomes available but wont take the new key when i hold the unlock for 2 seconds. and i still only have the one working remote. not sure if its something i am doing or not doing. i also have VagTacho and confirmed the skc i have the cluster is correct. any help is much appreciated. i have not tested on any other cars as i dont want to have some issues. i am using a pro registered hex-net and current upto date software. my buddy wants me to do his keys but cant safely till i figure mine out. i have scans from the car so vcds is working and talking with everything including the cluster.

    We'll need to see a full VCDS Auto-Scan to see how your car is equipped and setup.

    "Mk.4" could be Immo-2 or Immo-3.

    Dave is right. Please post an Auto-Scan.

    some notes the cluster is a sport cluster and not original to the car, the ecu same but not from same car as cluster. wagon was auto 1.8t and i swapped harness to tdi wagon so the airbag stuff is likely a broken wire/wires. the ecu has an immo delete and i am guessing this is actually the root of my issue but i dont want to pair the cluster/ecu without knowing it will then allow the key adaptation as i will then lose my current daily driver.

    Looks like an Immo-3 cluster.

    IIRC, the way those work is you can match a new thing (key, ECU, or cluster) if the other two are already matched to each other.

    so i need to match the ecu to the cluster then i can key match? and with the immo off currently will that complicate things ? and lastly if i pair the ecu with the cluster will it remain immo off or will that reset the immo and basically brick me till i adapt the keys?

    I don't know. I've never dealt with "immo off" ECUs.

    Immo off is your problem when you try to program keys , with immo off you will not be able to program keys or ECU to cluster because cluster has to see ECU to be able to do this , with immo off it is blocked.
    Other problem you will have is that all keys has new transponder chips and no way to program cluster to ECU even with immo on.
    What happen to old transponder chips?

    For remotes , you have to clear all existing remotes in Adaptation Ch 000, then you can go and program all 4 in CH 01.

    i have a running parts car. it is currently all original. if i was to say put the cluster in that car, match the cluster to it cause i have a valid key for its immo, then put the sport cluster in, pair them, then patch the new keys to the cluster, swap the sport back to the wagon and then it will just need to be paired with the ecu? extra steps but not impossible if ive got that correct


    the car came to me as a project(gls 1.8t auto wagon). the tdi stuff was all there and the new harness but in boxes. there were 2 clusters and 3 ecu's. none labelled. not realising at the time (over a year ago before i had my vagtacho and vcds pro) i paid a guy to program the keys and as the car was not in a running state anyway (motor and fuel system not swap completed at that point) to save time i brought him the cluster. i didnt know it at the time the cluster i grabbed was an immo2 and the car and ecu i installed were immo3 (car is 03 jetta wagon) so my issues started with the car would start but die after 2 sec. the part i struggled finding info on was because the cluster didnt show immo lights cause the keys were programmed to the cluster and seperate to the ecu. so this ultimately lead me to doman8 to get immo delete and that got the car running and driving. but i still had issues like no power windows/mirrors and a few other canbus related things. finnally got that sorted when the cluster was identified and i replaced with an immo3 sport cluster. now i am driving around with the immo light flashing and it is driving me nuts. so here i am learning more about my adventures into swapping cars.

    that round was "easy" and my first tdi swap as it was mk4-mk4. this is a practice run for my big challenge which once i get the body work completed (doing slowly myself) my 81 rabbit pickup will be also getting an alh, although it will be rebuilt first then bigger turbo and some supporting mods so will require some tuning but that is later yet.

    That should work but you will end up with wrong VIN.
