Hi guys,

could anyone try help point me in the right direction here - i'm lost with this one

2005 audi A8 3.0tdi ASB engine code

vehicle has no communication with nearly every modules

insert key and try start, engine cranks and runs for a few seconds then cuts out - like a vehicle with immo problems - guessing due to the no communication to modules
check fuses and can't find any problems there

instrument cluster does not illuminate or wake up at all - nothing there - i've had the clocks tested and all o.k - although i get CP active - the owner is 110% adamant these clocks are the ori clocks and have NOT been replaced at all

car was fine and would just not start one morning

i have removed front seats and checked under the carpets around the kessy unit to look for water ingress and can't find any

any help on where to start would be great - TIA

While I do not disagree with Wolfgang that the CAN Gateway may be bad, I would check all the wiring around it and make sure all is connected to the gateway.

Any chance someone played with the coding of the gateway?

you wouldn't happen to know which module is the powertrain data bus and where it's located - as you say it's the only module that's showing a 'defective fault'

is the powertrain data bus module part of the can gateway module? r are they seperate modules?

i'll check and ask the owner, plus i'll run through the coding and check myself
ive checked the plug and fire optic cable to the can gateway and visually wiring looks o.k - no breaks or corroded connectors ect

The powertrain data bus is not a module; it is a twisted pair (CAN) wiring bus that the various powertrain modules use to communicate with each other.

Thank Uwe - so scope time on the can wires and an unplug it test to see if any modules are causing the breakdown in comms?

o.k so i found the problem - dodgy can wires into the kessy module - repaired that and now have communication to all the modules barring the MMI - car now starts and runs lots of DTC's to go through but the major issues is now sorted - thanks for your help guys - very much appreciated :thumbs:
