2007 Audi A3 2.0tfsi Quattro Sportback LED Fog Lights retrofit error codes!

Hi all! I'm a new poster here. So if I posted in the wrong place please forgive me. I need some help with a couple of error codes! Bought the Philips 12794UNIX2 X-tremeUltinon (H8/H11/H16) LED Fog Light twin-pack Kit for my 2007 Audi A3 2.0tfsi Quattro Sportback. They gave me 2 problem codes (L/R Fog light out) and 1 dash lamp out icon. Got in touch with Philips support and was told I needed to buy their 18954C2 Philips LED Headlight CANbus Adapters (Twin Packs) that fits H8 /H11/H16. And run them piggy-back! (Which I thought was strange! Because 12794UNIX2 supposedly has CABbus adapters built inline.) Well… they DIDN’T WORK eaither!!!! I even went in with my VCDS and unchecked the Fog light Cold lamp diagnosis under 09-Cent Electrics -> Coding 07 -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 18. Worked fine until I turn them on! The codes come back and have to use VCDS to clear the codes all over again. Any clues on how to get these to work right? And one last question... Under 09-Cent Electrics -> Coding 07 -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 17 -> Bit 3 Does anyone know what Terminal 50 is?

Byte 18, Bit 2 , unchecked : Cold Diagnosis Front Fog Lights active mens:
If you do not use fog lights, the Central Electric unit do not check if the bulbs are ok or not. When you light on the fog lights, the unit sees that the bulbs are not OK and the error codes appear.

So you have to lie the Central Electric unit with a consumer that together with the current consumption of LEDs will result almost the same consumption with the original bulbs
Use your brain. It does not wear out.

Yeah.... You need to add a resistor in parallel with each bulb. There are many options out there.... spend a little extra to get a quality product that will last! Remember, they get extremely hot.... mount them away from splashing, preferably metal that will act as a heat-sink.

Hi guys thank you for your info. I have uploaded a few pictures to show you what I'm working with. If you look at the fog lights (12794UNIX2) you can see that there is a in inline CANbus resistor built in. And the CANbus adaptors (18954C2) that Philips told me to buy and run piggy back with the fog lights. These do not work W/W-out the CANbus adaptors. Is there a way to re-code out the fog-light checking OR modify the CANbus adaptors with the right resistor in them? And what would that resistor ohms be?

So... absolutely no one knows how I can get these to work without spending hundreds of dollars on buying resistors that don't work until i find one that does. I would like to modify the one's I have now to the right resistor's that work. Is there any electricians out there that knows what resistor's I need?

It's very hard to predict. Old-school light bulbs have a huge change in resistance between cold (off) and hot (fully lit). This change can be as much as 10:1. You can calculate the hot resistance from the wattage and measure the cold resistance using a multimeter, but without knowing the algorithms that the control modules uses to check them, and without knowing the equivalent resistance of your LED bulbs, it's just a guessing game.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

There are plenty of us time served auto electricians out here, but as Uwe says ...

    of course 6ohm 50w resistors

Worth a try - but remember that the resistors will get VERY HOT so mount them someone that the heat can be dissipated safely (such as on a metal panel).

55W bulbs on a 12V supply have an equivalent hot resistance of just under 3 ohms, but 6 ohms might be enough to fool the system.
