    The speed alert function is useful for keeping me from getting a speeding ticket, but I would like to alter it to make it more effective.


    Here are the details of what I'd like to change.



    When I exceed the set speed it chimes once and the speed limit exceeded message comes up on the MFD and stays up until I drop below the set speed.

    Since I have the big digital speedo enabled (courtesy of VCDS) I would like to no longer have the speed limit exceeded text stay on the screen, as it blocks my view of the digital speed readout.

    Instead I'd like to have the chime repeat at a set interval (say every 5 to 10 seconds) until I drop below the speed limit I've set.



    Can the above be done??

    I doubt it. The only thing that strikes me as relevant in your instrument cluster is this Adaptation channel:

    I'm sure if that's all you can see, that's all there is.

    Can I just check something so I understand. VCDS will give me the option to change any option that the manufacturer coded in, but it won't allow you to do anything they completely did not intend?

    What I mean is, you couldn't use it to take a piece of their hardware and completely recode (hack it I suppose) to do something very different. I am not any kind of programmer anyway, I'm just trying to understand the capabilities of the VCDS system, as when I first looked at guides I read much about coding and thought it was maybe as free as someone writing new code when creating an android app, windows program, etc.

    Yes, the car and control module manufacturers make certain things configurable via the diagnostic API, generally via the Coding or Adaptation functions. VCDS can change those values. But it cannot change things that the manufacturers did not intend to be configurable, i.e. it cannot make arbitrary changes to the function of a module.
