Mk5 2.0 TDI
Hey,
I’m Dirk, VW enthousiast living in Holland.
At the moment we have three different VW Golf at home.
2015 VW Golf Mk7 1.6TDI, a companycar.
2008 VW Golf Mk5 2.0TDi, former daily, we used as a private car.
1989 VW Golf Mk2 1.8GTI, bought it back in 2010 form the first owner, in stead of wrecking it like most dutch youngsters. Rebuild and stil love it.
Trying to get more info of all the posibilities of vcds before buying a version and which version.
Luckely a can often borrow a geuine hexcan of brother in law.

Benevolent Dictator
I do not think the 1989 GTI has anything in it that's capable of modern diagnostic communications.
The 2008 is an Mk.5. See here
The 2015 is an Mk.7. See here and this.
As for which version to buy: Anything we currently offer will work on the last two cars.

PS: Moving to Pre-Sales Support
The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
