I did some experimentation on this topic in the past:

The biggest hurdle to overcome was that the car would suddenly veer to one side and start chasing squirrels, chipmunks, pigeons, or anything else that distracted the navigation system..... :D

I'm somewhat disappointed. Since it was a 10+ minute video, I was expecting the machine to take a tumble from the center of gravity shift as soon as they released the bridge section..... :(
