2010 Phaeton not starting and key fob not unlocking doors.......Please help!

    Hi

As per the title I have 2010 Phaeton RHD with Sunroof and it will not start or unlock with any of my key fobs x2

I came to the car after a night of torrential rain tried to unlock the car with my key fob and it didn't work so I manually unlocked the car and it started fine took the car for around a 30 minute drive nothing unusual no warning lights other than the cruise control light came on (may have pressed it accidentally) and I think I'm not sure if the key symbol came on, anyway came back to the car and unlocked using key and NOTHING! The car wasn't starting, no ignition, nothing other than mileage & door display working and radio, so my first instinct was the battery has gone flat so luckily my father owns a garage so he brought me his booster pack, put the booster pack on under the bonnet and still nothing, so I manually opened the boot as the car is deadlocked and not allowing me to open any of the doors and tried putting the booster on the starting battery RH directly and still nothing so I thought maybe I've confused the batteries and put it on the other battery LH and still nothing.

He also brought a live tester so I tested all the fuses with a basic live tester and visually inspected the larger fuses all are fine upon first basic inspection, at this point I decided to get the car recovered as the alarm kept going off and I was parked in a hospital car park. Whilst I waiting I started to strip the gearbox surround in order to put the car in neutral, all went well and the car hooked up easily though it was heavy!

Got the car recovered to my fathers workshop and when we where taking the car off the trailer (front end in the air) I noticed the ignition lights turn on and the heater vents opening up so I got excited and tried starting the car but NOTHING, however I had ignition so I did a quick fault code read with a Snap-On machine & the following errors came up:

00288 Steering column lock actuator N360 open circuit or short to ground - Intermittent
00230 Transmission Park Selector Switch (F305) Short with Ground - Intermittent
    00166 Access/Start Authorisation Switch (E415) Open Circuit
49682 Steering Column No Communication U0212 Lower Limit Reached - Intermittent
49508 No Communications with HVAC Control Module (J301) U0164 Upper Limit Reached - Intermittent

Whilst the ignition was on the key symbol came on and every time I tried to start the car it wasn't responding, therefore I cleared the codes however the key symbol would come back on straight away & I also got a message like acc battery not connected or something like that, I turned the car off and tried restarting however it returned to its previous state and no ignition lights or anything just the alarm going off every 2 seconds and driving me insane.

Since then I have read all sorts of posts regarding the Kessy module as that was the only code that didn't have intermittent next to it and have read some posts with regards to it getting flooded with water etc, I have checked both batteries and they are producing 12 volts plus and have also recharged the smaller RH battery, I also borrowed my friends VAG COM and got the following log:

As this also indicated a fault with the Kessy module I have started to strip the drivers side to gain access hoping that it is on the drivers side RHD however I am half way through stripping it I can just about peel back the foam and carpet and it is bone dry and I this time I do not think it is on the drivers side, if it is on the passenger side I do not think I can access it without being able to unlock the passenger door in order to remove all the trim and seat etc

Please could someone shed light and confirm that my kessy is the problem and how I go about removing it with the door locked and replacing it or repairing it if possible.

    Kind regards

    So another update.

Jacked the front end up using a ramp and saw a load of water pouring out from under the car hoping I would get ignition lights on again in order for me to unlock the doors, ignition lights didn't come on again but the doors unlocked, I knew it was a long shot but it worked. As soon as I touched the carpet on the passenger side it was soaked with water.

Removed seat and carpet and I have now found the kessy module and another box next to it what i don't understand is why they haven't put the kessy in a box also. There are 2 rubber grommets which I have pushed out to drain excess water, I have also opened the kessy module and noticed some very slight corrosion and blacked pins, i have cleaned with contact cleaner and dried with compressed air, however I am going to leave it in some rice for a few hours before I try reconnecting and obviously dry everything else out in the meantime.

I have also bought a used module off ebay just in case this one doesn't work.

Do you know exactly what has to be swapped over and can programming be done with vagcom?

I'm confident it is legitimate, but he doesn't seem to be the original owner.

    -Uwe-
The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
