Just auto updated the VCDS software on my laptop. I am using a HEX-NET enthusiast version. On VCDS, I tested the USB port via the laptop and the HEX-NET is found. However, when I try to auto scan, I get an error message:

Scan: Auto-Detect
Function not supported by the gateway
VIN: xxx
End------(Elapsed Time: 00:07, VBatt start/end: 12.9V/12.9V)-----

Used to be able to auto scan, etc., with my setup before (2 months ago) with no problem.

Can someone help?

Just tried connecting with WiFi and using my smartphone/app. With auto-scan on the app, I get a different message: Can't check ASAM data in AP mode. Unable to reach server.

Any thoughts?

What are the exact results when you do [Options] -> [Test] in VCDS with the HEX-NET connected to your PC via USB and plugged into the car?

No, it wasn't. Tried with ignition on as well as engine on too.
Try again with the hood open - some newer models require the hood to be open for the diagnostics to connect...

Should not affect the ability to do an Auto-Scan. The "Diagnostic Firewall" does not prevent reading data from modules, only writing to them.

Can't check ASAM data in AP mode.

This is expected, you don't have access to the outside internet in AP mode, and it needs to download data from the server. You can either use a wifi tether, or you can take it back inside and now download the data with VCIConfig -> "Check for Updates"

After i updated the VCDS software, I did download data via the VCIconfig so I don't think that is the issue. Maybe the data for the 2019 SQ5 does not exist yet. In any case, I will try again tonight.

We've found an issue with recent builds of VCDS and autoscanning vehicles with a UDS gateway (like your MLB-Evo based Q5). New builds are ready, just stay tuned for an announcement here.

Will do. Also seems like you can't use the smartphone WiFi to connect to the HEX-NET and also download the updates/ASAM data. Is this correct?

Not it AP mode. To do this, you need to put you phone into hotspot mode so your phone broadcasts an AP, then configure the HEX-NET to connect to your phone's hotspot. Then the HEX-NET should be able to get out to the internet using your phone's 4G. Of course this depends on a lot of things, like signal strength and your phones ability to run as a hotspot, so your mileage may vary.

FYI, a fresh download of VCDS is available from our website which should address this issue:

https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.php

Please give it a try and let us know the results.

Did a fresh download of VCDS and a new update that was available via interface config. Auto Scan worked almost to the end, but did not complete. I received the following error message:

If you want me to send the autoscan results via email or PM, let me know as I saved the file.

Just to let you know I have the same issues too since updating from 18.9 to 19.6.0.4 and 19.6.0.6. The issue still persists

I updated my HEX-NET firmware also to latest version when VCDS prompted me and now autoscans fail on my 2016 Q7 4M which have worked absolutely fine on 18.9

I get "Function not supported by the gateway" when I do an autoscan and if I keep Clicking the "Gateway installation list" it eventually works. I then try and take a full AutoScan by hitting the Start button but I just got 4/5 modules, not the entire car

I'm working with Andy @ Ross-Tech support but sadly its still not working, so I'm trying now to revert my VCDS install back to 18.9.x - very frustating and VCDS is normally rock solid.

You can see below it only picks up 4 random modules. I also noticed when I start an Autoscan it starts with Module 17 (Instruments) where as in 18.9.x it started with Module 01 (Engine).

Something definitely isnt right with VCDS on its current release but hopefully with the triage I'm doing with Andy @ Ross-Tech support we will get there.

Hi,

I am having the same problems with my HEX-V2
Trying to scan and getting "not supported by gateway" message in post one.
Worked fine yesterday but after updating firmware today nothing but hassle!
I have to play arroung reconnecting and re booting to get a scan working and half of the modules are sometimes missing.

Whats going on?
