    Thanks for the Help Don.
    I understand “Select Control Module” bit but I’m a bit wet behind the ears after that.
    After selecting it there is a list of modules.
    After selecting one of them like “5F-Info Electric” it scans but after that I don’t know what to do.
    After Security access I get stuck. I thing from memory it’s 31347?

    ^^^ sure - that's a good tweak for starters. The most important thing when facing difficulties with VCDS is to remember why the book "Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" sold so well. As Douglas Adams wrote with such simplistic eloquence - because it had the words "Don't Panic" in big bold letters on the front page. The only time that I do this is when Uwe tells me to panic!!!

    Here's a very, very, very unofficial suggestion as to how to proceed!

    After you have fired-up the VCDS software, press select on the "Select Control Module" part of "VCDS:Main screen" -see the top line RHS of the screen for these words. I like to think of this screen as being the front gate to the housing estate that is the CAN network for my car.

    After you do this, the RT software loads the control modules in your car that have successfully reported as being installed.

    Then select 09-Cent. Elect. module - This is one of the modules and it's sometimes called the BCM (hover your cursor over the word to see what it means) on this forum. The "09" means that the BCM lives @ address hex09 on the CAN bus - which is a geeky way of numbering modules (Mr. Google will tell you more about hexadecimal numbering if you have an interest).

    After you do this, you will be presented with the "Open Controller" screen for the BCM. To continue my analogy, I like to think of this screen as being one of the homes in the housing estate - in this case, the particular house has the street address "hex09". Again, in my imagination I liken each of the boxes in the Open Controller screen akin to rooms in my BCM house.

    An important room is the one that has the label "Security Access - 16" on the door (I don't know what "16" means, but I suspect that it's part of the standards nomenclature for OBD - in which case it's way too arcane for my feeble brain and I just don't care).

    In their infinite wisdom, the sage boffins at the Audi factory have "locked-out" the ability for making some changes to these modules by requiring a security access code (called SA in this forum - hover your cursor over the word). Lots of adaptation channels are locked-out in this fashion

    So, to unlock the module for the particular changes that are needed for this tweak, you will need to select "Security Access - 16".

    After you do this, you will be presented with a screen that invites you to enter a SA. Now, SA s for new modules are as scarce as rocking-horse shit because they tend to be closely kept secrets by Audi. However, by various means known only to the wizened troglodytes that work tirelessly for us VCDS users in the bowels of RT's HQ, some SA s have been found. I have no idea (and I don't want to know) what nefarious means are employed by RT staff in this endeavor - but SAs are sometimes embedded into the VCDS software and a suggested SA often appears magically in a balloon when you click in the box on this screen.

    In any event, the SA for the BCM on your car is now well known - enter the magic number 31347 and then hit the doit!! button. You should be aware that these modules can get very cranky if you enter the wrong SA. You do get a couple of tries, but the module will lock-out for a period of time (measured with the car's ignition turned-on) if you are a recidivist. So, enter the SA carefully!

    After you do this, you will return to the Open controller screen, but this time the doors to all of the rooms in the BCM house will be unlocked.

    Select "Adaptation - 10" to enter the room that contains the adaptation channels in the BCM house. Now, for your particular BCM, this is a very full room - your BCM contains a large number of adaptation channels (the count can be in excess of 2,000 channels) and the trick to proceeding is to select the correct one. Fortunately those crazy, zany software folk at RT HQ have added a search box on this screen to help us mere mortals navigate the avalanche of adaptation channels that live in this room.

    So, your first task is to find the channel called IDE02269-ENG116666-Acknowledgement signals-Akustische Rueckmeldung entriegeln. Note: the name that I'm using here is a little different to the channel name in the instructions that you found from Uwe's reference because the newer RT software now reports adaptation channels with what RT calls "Tags" - which is a string of leading numbers followed by the "old" channel name. Compare my channel name with the name in your instruction to see the newer convention for RT's current naming protocol (this has only happened for adaptation channel names)

    Tags are good because all you need do to find the correct channel is to enter the Tag number - just the last part of the Tag number is necessary, so type in "ENG116666" into the search box (hmm.... just ignore the number-of-the-beast in this Tag - I'm sure that it's not a portent for the success of your first tweak)

    After you have done this, click on the down-arrow immediately above the search box and you should see the correct adaptation channel displayed - select this channel

    You should now be presented with a screen for this particular channel showing the "stored value" and another box called "new value". Click on this second box to see the permissible values for this channel and select the setting in your instructions. Then hit the "doit!! button. The VCDS software then does some secret stuff and eventually the setting that you selected magically appears in the "stored value" box to confirm the change that you made. I normally just stare in sheer wonderment at this part of the process and I contemplate what other secret information of mine is being uploaded onto RT's servers - unbeknown to me (but my therapist keeps cautioning that my conspiracy theories are likely to be unfounded- and I'm sufficiently comforted by this advice to keep using VCDS)

    After you do this, you will be returned to the adaptation screen - repeat the process for the second adaptation channel called IDE02269-ENG116667-Acknowledgement signals-Akustische Rueckmeldung verriegeln (remember to search for "ENG116667" - and again, ignore any hidden meaning in the number-of-the-beast!)

    That's it - pending the good auspices of the omnipotent deity that oversees ALL VCDS practices and assuming that the force is with you, the tweak will be completed and your Audi should slavishly bleat every time that you turn-ON/OFF the alarm.

    I finally got around to doing this and set both to “Active” but still no beep on lock on the key fob.
    I have reset the MMI as well but. I go.

    UPDATE: It actually worked. The “Chirp” is very faint.

    Congratulations. Your first tweak and successfully completed! You can now be considered to be a blooded VCDS user (an honorarium sought by many, but attained by just a few who have the wisdom to buy a RT cable/dongle) !!

    "very faint"? Not sure why this is - on my A3 8V (the R3 is too sporty for my pedestrian personality), the acknowledgement sound frequently wakes-up the dead - according to my neighbors.

    I'm not sure and I'm guessing really, but there is another software switch in the Acknowledgement signals suite of adaptation channels that is used to shorten/lengthen the tone. It may just be that this switch is set to "short" on your car - again, I'm guessing?

    So- given your recent elevation from newbie status, I won't re-describe all the steps in this tweak, but navigate to the adaptation channel below (remember- search for "ENG122187"):
    IDE02269-ENG122187-Acknowledgement signals-Dauer der Akustischen Rueckmeldung vom Einfachhorn.

    This channel can have 2 x settings: kurtz (meaning "short" in English) and normal. If the setting on your car is the former value, back-out of the screen and enter the magic SA - then change setting to normal

    Thanks again. Yes I remember that one. I changed it to Short from Normal. I will change back when I get the laptop back.
    On another note, I went through the list of available changes and there are so many! Ones that I can understand I will attempt to change them but how do I find the meaning to the list? Is there a link I can source to read?

    One I was particularly interested in was the Ride Height. It was set at 368mm.
    I will get a link for a photo up soon.
    Am I correct in assuming you can drop the ride height?
