Hi,
I've recently purchased Ross-tech Hex-V2, still learning how it all works.

I have a 2012 Audi A4 Allroad that I collected today, I have 2 original keys with the car, however the keys will not turn on the ignition or lock/unlock the car. The car is currently sat on a rental car transporter trailer and I cannot release the parking brake or unlock the steering lock to get the car off the trailer!! (The rental company wants the trailer back asap!

I have checked the wiki help, and have tried to release the parking brake by using the 'Lining change mode'. however this produces an error message and does not work.
I have also tried to look at what keys are registered with the car, but I get an odd number (32865) where I think it should just say '2' (see photo)

Maybe i'm looking in the wrong place, if anyone could give me any advice how to check for the keys in the system, or even how to recode these keys back in to the system that would be much appreciated. The 2 keys I have are the original keys for the car, i've no idea why they no longer work?

Failing that, If anyone knows how to release the parking brake without the ignition on, or release the steering lock!

This car has the key that pushes in to the dashboard btw, not the flip key. And the chassis is an 8K

Many thanks

Pressing SET on the dash a few times or so will show Lx/x on the dashboard. Please post what you have instead of the x.

Please post a full Auto-Scan of the Allroad. Also please post the Advanced ID from 05-Acc/Start Authorisation.

Hi, Here is the full autoscan and advance ID. I have tried pressing set a few times and it just shows the mileage and clock, nothing else happens.

Ah, you have to do the Auto-Scan with the ignition switched on - but you can't, because of the key not being recognised...

On that screenshot you posted for the Advanced ID of 05; see the button labelled [Advanced ID - 1A] - please click that and then post the results here as text.

Thank you. This shows the system is reading one of your existing keys, so they need to be programmed I'm afraid. They are write-once to an immobiliser system; so it's Dealer or someone with online ODIS who will be able to program. VCDS can't.

This also explains why you couldn't see the L2 x/x on the display.

Lastly, please register your HEX-V2 so you may enjoy Verified VCDS User status. :)

OP joined the forum in July 2019 and registered his HEX-V2 in March 2019. Unfortunately we have no way of automatically catching that, but I just took care of it manually. He's now Verified, and this is moving to Car Repair Support.

Thanks so much for your help. SO is that the transponder ID 1, showing it has a key? And is it only showing 1 key? So I know for future reference!

I just took the car to Audi on the trailer, but they won't programme the key until I have a log book in my name, which could take a month from DVLA. Managed to get it off the trailer though by borrowing a friends garage 4 post lift, it just fitted on there with 1cm to spare each side! Very lucky. Putting it back on the trailer to take it to Audi is going to be just as much fun!

@UWE, thank you for verifying my VCDS :)

Stu.

Yes (transponder ID 1), and only one key, yes. I have an 8K too; and in AdvID I have three Transponder IDs, which corresponds to having two main keys and the flat, plastic emergency key. Indeed when I switch the ignition or start, the Transponder ID (Current val.): XXXXXXXX matches one of my stored transponder IDs. It also changes to one of the other values when I use another key.

Try your other key, see if the Transponder ID (Current val.): changes. What's your story behind the car? Have you been duped that they were correct keys and it's otherwise a good runner?

I've clearly got a lot to learn about the VCDS!
The car was stolen recovered, purchased from an insurance company, the keys were provided but I was aware the car wouldn't start, I didn't realise the keys were not programmed to the car hense why I got caught out!

So I have two keys, does that mean there is likely a third key somewhere that did work on the car?

Well, just my own opinion of what has possibly happened, is when it was stolen, the thieves didn’t get one of the original keys; they cracked the BCM2 and added their own. It’s quite common, I’m afraid. (WatchDog did a feature on it a few years ago). The process of adding a key, deletes all others.

The insurance company usually insists on all keys being handed back before they’ll pay out. So those keys you have may indeed be the originals for the car; but no longer programmed as I’ve described. They may be able to be programmed back, saving a few £s, but still a main dealer job. :(

Could you imagine if others here or I was turned to the dark side?

Literally could be gone in less than 30 seconds........maybe less!

Sometimes the high road is a boring fork in the road!

Is that when they have equipment that listens for the key code to duplicate it? I have heard about that. So they must have to use VCDS to add their own key to the car then?

I've applied for the new log book, so hopefully will be here soon, and then Audi will program both keys for £90, which isn't too bad I guess.

Nope, it would have been some other tool. VCDS cannot add a key to a B8.
