    Bentley Continental GT V8 2013 - is it safe to read ABS-Brakes Faults?

    Hi all, i have Hex net v2 professional

    this is my own car - everyday when i start it , it says "brake wear" on the screen, however all brake pads are fine LOADS left on them

    after a drive , stop and start car, the light does not come back on. only first start of every day it appears



    My question is, is VCDS safe to read this module on this car? Fault codes etc,

    I have plugged it in, it recognises everything, i used it to find a fault with a TPMS sensor earlier, was great help.


    thanks in advance, (plus any tips on why sensor light keeps coming on would be great)

    The best thing to do would be to post a complete Auto-Scan from your car.

    Thanks, i was just questioning if it was safe to read this module, as in the WIKI bentley 2012+ is greyed out meaning i have nothing to read.

    ive heard some specific modules should not be read with VCDS as they can leave error codes which are not clearable.

    Hello,

    We have had lots of Ross-Tech customer send us complete vehicle Auto-Scans of the Bentley Continental and the New Bentley Continental 2012+ without causing errors.

    Where have you seen that VCDS has left errors?

    Use the pull down menu on the Auto-Scan screen to select the [39-Bentley Continental (2012>), it will work fine.

    Here is the video i took showing it cannot connect to ABS BRAKES module and therefore cannot read DTC


    any advice? i assume the BRAKE WEAR error i occasional get will be stored here

    Usually "Brake Wear" warnings originate from a simple circuit connected to the instrument cluster for the front pads, and from the EPB module for the back pads.

    But in this case, it looks like you might have a dodgy ABS controller.

    Hello,

    Uwe is correct, in the Bentley Continental GT, the 'brake pad wear sensors' are not sensors, they are simply wire loops in a plastic tab with a two terminal connector at the end.

    They are placed into each of the 4 wheel's brake (outer?) pads. In the wiring diagrams, they are called - G34, G35, G36 and G37.

    There is a 0.5mm red wire from the J285-Instrument Cluster on the G34-Left Front Pad wear sensor that should be grounded (from ground on the G37 through the G35, G36), when the sensors are NOT worn or damaged. If at anytime a pad wear senor loop is opened the Pad Wear light illuminates.


    So the circuit is from J285 to G34 to G35 to G36 to G37 to chassis ground.


    This information can be found in the "Dash panel insert" Bentley Factory wiring diagrams\Repair manuals.

    The ABS controller is not connected to these wear sensors.


    If the concern is not the brake pad wear sensor and this is actually an ABS concern, the light on the dash should be different. Maybe take a pic of the warning?

    Thanks your help is amazing!

    Firstly, its definitly brake wear sensor, it even says it on the dash in letters BRAKE WEAR

    Also, as its only on sometimes, others not, im sure not why, i think maybe a faulty brake pad wear sensor.


    So, id like to turn it OFF, if i go into instrument cluster, i can see the coding - it says +1 brake pad wear sensor active.

    IF i change coding from 0042414 to 0041414 as VCDS shows, would that take away the error

    The problem is that those two digits of the coding are a binary bit-field, and 42 doesn't have a 1 in it.
    42 = +32 +8 +2

    So it would seem something in the coding specs for this cluster have changed since that file was written (last modification in 2009) and your 2013 car was made.

    Another approach is to pull the cluster and just jumper the appropriate wire behind it.
