A3 8V 2.0 TDI electronic parking brake issues

Hi, has anyone had issues where the EPB stops working on Auto release method. The only way I can release the handbrake is by pressing the button with either the brake or gas pedal pressed. Ran an auto scan on vcds and no errors.

Previously changed the 12v battery (was 12.1v) as my cars 6 years old. Chanting the battery inadvertently resolved the issue and the handbrake started to auto release again. But 2 months on and suddenly the same problem. Battery currently at 12.8v but only 13.2v when the engine is at idle?? This drops to 12.9v under heavy load.... Can this be the cause (i.e alternator).

    Any thoughts?

Is it possible the car things one of the seat belts that should be buckled isn't? I'm pretty sure that will cause the behavior you describe without setting any faults.

Another idea: I wonder if the "cold boot" of all systems when you change the battery is what actually fixed the problem (as opposed to a "new" battery). You might try disconnecting your battery for a bit, then reconnecting it to see if that fixes it again.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

Thank you for your help, being a vcds novice how does one apply the new version of the ABS Module? (I only know as much as following YouTube videos to add additional features like needle sweeps and drl brightness chnages).

Yes the car is doing the type of behaviour as if the driver's seatbelt wasn't buckled (but it is in fact bucked in at all times when testing/ driving).

Finally when the battery was changed for me the mechanic did plug in a portable power supply during the battery change to save the cars memory. Should I still try disconnecting the battery?

I did forget to mention that I temporarily over came the problem (on numerous occasions prior to the battery change) by topping up the battery with my ctek 5.0 smart charger. I have since tried this method again but only got an a short lived tempory fix where the auto release started to work for about 50% of the times for 1 short (and now back to not releasing again).

After battery replacement, did you also code the replacement in CAN gateway...? If not, your car still thinks it has the old battery and that may (or may not) cause many weird things.

Since there is no newer version available, it doesn't really matter. But if there was a newer version available, the path of least resistance would be to ask a dealer to install it.

Interesting. In that case, a cold boot probably won't help.

You might want to monitor these in the ABS module itself:

IDE03680-IDE04444 -- Supply voltages - Terminal 30 voltage for pump
IDE03680-IDE04445 -- Supply voltages - Terminal 30 voltage for valves

I'm wondering if you have a dodgy connection somewhere that's causing them ABS to see voltages lower than they really are?
