Hi Folks,

I haven't been on here in ages. My old 2006 Jetta was working so well my VCDS cable was collecting dust in the garage. I just bought a low mileage (17k) 2013 Golf TDI. It's one of the "fixed" ones that VW has flooded the local market with recently.

I was trying to brush the cobwebs off my VCDS and wanted to do the first thing I always do...set the door locks to all open with one button push on the keyfob.
I tried several times but was not able to connect to the 46-Central Conv. module. Am I doing something wrong or is there a glitch somewhere? Any advice would be appreciated.

Autoscan is clean as a whistle.

There is no 46. :D

Seriously, this is an Mk.6 generation car. All the stuff that was formerly in 46 has been integrated in 09, the BCM. 46 still appears in the GVL due to compatibility and data-routing reasons, but there is nothing to for a scan tool to talk to at 46.

Ha!...Well then, that explains why I can't connect to it then huh? lol. Thanks Ewe.

I haven't been paying attention to anything newer than the Mk5 I was driving until I dragged this Mk6 home, so I guess I'm starting from scratch here.

Back to the car I go!

While I am here I want to ask...something else that is new to me with this car that I dislike is that when I turn on the cruise, a km/hr display takes over the location of my trip odometer. Is there any way to change this or do I just get used to it?

I just went out and set my door locks to all open with one push of the button on the keyfob (Now that I know where to look...lol).

Thank you kind sir!

I'll carry on and go burn some diesel then....

Oh, one more question: I usually have an Ultraguage installed to watch km/hr, coolant temp, voltage, and boost. I noticed there is no OBDII output for boost on this car, is that correct or am I doing something wrong again? I searched the menu and couldn't find it. It was always there on the Mk4 cars and the one Mk5 I had. Is this gone on the Mk6? It doesn't matter really...I had just gotten used to watching it.

You could post a control module map of address 0x33, so we can see which PIDs VCDS supports. I have a vague feeling/recollection it's your ultragauge being outdated. I could be wrong.

I have a vague feeling/recollection it's your ultragauge being outdated. I could be wrong.

That may very well be the case. I checked the Ultragauge website, and found the info below:

"Ultragauge MX prior to v1.3 can not access multi-frame data. The Ultragauge MX v1.3 was enhanced to accept multi-frame data which allows Manufacturer proprietary data to be accessed. No all vehicles support Multi-frame data.

This update is free with in the first year of ownership: EM Update Please place a note in the message box on the 2nd checkout page that you are upgrading to the MX 1.3"

Looks like the update to V1.3 happened in 10/2014 and mine is an early 2014 unit (V1.2).

Maybe I need the later version with V1.3

Check out PID 0x70. I'd want to monitor 0x78 too... If the ultragauge supported it :-)

Yes, I see boost there...
I wonder why my Ultragauge is not picking it up then....hmmm.
I would also like to monitor the transmission fluid temp.

I was reading some more, and my Ultraguage V1.2 is the current version for the EM series.

The MX Version reads other things like Transmission fluid temp...if available...

https://ultra-gauge.com/ZC/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=57

Might be time for an upgrade.

While I am here I want to ask...something else that is new to me with this car that I dislike is that when I turn on the cruise, a km/hr display takes over the location of my trip odometer. Is there any way to change this or do I just get used to it?

Might be worth checking the adaption channels of the instrument cluster. Feel free to post an adaption map if there is nothing obvious.

How do I do that exactly?

I am an infrequent VCDS user...I've only plugged the thing in a couple times in the past few years for Autoscans, so my experience level is low.

Check out PID 0x70. I'd want to monitor 0x78 too... If the ultragauge supported it :-)

Hey Eric,

So with some more reading and whatnot, I see that Boost is not available on these cars as it was in the previous gens. It can be added if I buy one of the other model Ultragauges (The MX version) or the Scangauge 2 with X-Gauge (EGT can also be added).

However, looking through the available gauges on my current UG EM Plus model, I do have available Cat Bank 1 Sensor 1 in either degrees C or F. I assume this is out 3c in the OBDII module map posted above.

Would this reading show me when DPF regens are taking place with reasonable certainty?

Just curious. I can live without boost readings...I didn't need it anyway...this is just a stock street/work car, but I would like to monitor when DPF gens are happening so I can at least let the car do it's business and finish if I happen to close to shutting it off.

Any thoughts from the pros would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rem

Should be simple enough to just set it up and look at it during a regen vs normal driving, no? :) Or you can monitor it with VCDS in OBD2 mode if you don't want to touch the settings on your UG for now. I expect it will be easy to tell.

Oh I don't mind changing the Ultragauge settings at all, I was just curious if that particular cat B1S1 output would tell when a regen is happening.

I'll set it up to read that one and watch it for a while to see what happens.

It was very easy to tell!! I set the UG to monitor the B1S1 Cat Temp, and a regen started within 20 minutes. Normal driving the temp is usually between 550-750F depending on the engine load, and when the regen starts it shoots up to 1080F and stays there for approximately 10 minutes. It seems to cycle a little bit sometimes...maybe between 1000-1100F, but once it is finished it drops right back down to 600F quickly. Shows up like clockwork every 300 kms or so. Without seeing the temps, you would never notice it is happening. I did notice at a stoplight that the warm idle was slightly higher than normal during the regen, but still barely noticeable.

I had a pending DTC p2000 showing up several times, but it went away after a regen. It never did bloom into a full DTC, but it has not returned in several hundred miles and a couple more regen cycles.

Thanks again for the help here gentlemen. It is appreciated.
I came looking for Boost, and I got CAT b1S1 temps, but all is good and I'm happy for now;).
