    should I change it back to 00 since it made no difference?

    Thanks for the scan. HEX 15 would work with a newer SWL but it won't on this BCM.

    I'm reasonably confident HEX 02 was factory (under those 00's) for incandescent tails whit a rear fog light. HEX 04 should work for you in this condition providing the LED tail lights are VW (rather than aftermarket).

    P.S. Coding it back to 00 won't do any good. That was a spoofed value hiding the original coding.

    Sounds good.

    I managed to miss the warning from langers2k. Although I don't think you will have an issue with this Golf ... some early (2009/10 production) Golf 6 based models such as the Octavia did have issues where Coding to any of the 255 (00 through FF) possible Byte 18 issues did NOT restore lighting issues after modifications to Byte 18. In those cases you needed to tweak the EEPROM directly which isn't supported by VCDS. There was an test plan the dealer could run with GFF/ODIS and other tools (which can tweak the EEPROM directly) can be used if you know what to change.
