I've got a Acc/Start fault and it shows the J393 module. I can read the module so I can copy the current long coding is that all I need or does the dealer have to do something special to the Immobilizer? I ordered a brand new module from Audi so it will be the latest and greatest but now I'm reading info on the Immobilizer and wondering if I can do that with Vagcom or does the dealer have to hook up over the Internet with Audi Ag?

OK, now that we have a proper scan, we can definitively answer your question.
In this car, the J393 "Comfort Module" at address 46 also doubles as the Kessy (at address 05). You can see this based on the fact that theu both report being J393 and have the same HW part number: 8K0 907 064 FM.
Since the Kessy is also the master for the Immobilizer in this car, it's definitely a dealer job to replace that module, and yes, the dealer can't do it stand-alone either; they will have to do it via an on-line connection to servers on the Audi mothership.

Thanks, I ordered a new module from Suburban Auto group so I'll have to throw the car on a trailer I guess and get it to the dealer. Too bad Ross-tech couldn't crack that but I see the point with the immobilizer and theft. Although I'm sure the thieves have already cracked it by now. I'll get the door module and the parking brake motor(s) (I'm gonna do both) installed and get some of the codes cleared before I get there. Thanks again. Mark

+1. Seeing absolutely no cause for a CCM replacement here.
05 is just telling you to check 46 for a problem with something 05 depends on. 46 says it's got no comms with a door control module. 05 does access control so it likes to know if the doors are open or closed, etc so that's why.
Is this scan from before or after your door repair? What is the history here? Are you sure there's still a problem?

What have you done to address this fault?
I'm replacing it because the car will not start or turn over. I hot jumped the starter directly and it cranked so I'm hoping that the CCM is the fault since it is one of the main parts of the Start/Access system. It has not been in an accident but I checked the little pyro fuse by the battery and it was all good. Power to everything but just won't crank with a good starter? Vagcom is not specific enough on the fault, kind of generic so since I know it is not a jammed starter I'm going with the electrical malfunction with the only item I see fault that could cause it? I'm definitely open to other ideas.

How about load testing the wire from starter to relay and all associated tracks using WD?
A scan tool can only tell you what the car thinks it knows and is willing to divulge.

Starting to strip stuff to lower the engine a little so I can get at all of the connections, I need to redo the suspension anyways, bushings are shot. On the bright side I got the passenger door control module installed today and ran Vagcom and no faults now. One down and many to go. Thanks again everyone. I'll let you know how it turns out.
