    New Member: 2017 Tiguan Auto Hold/Handbrake Issue

    Good evening.
    I have been suffering from the dreaded Auto Hold problem for some time. The dealer has been unable/unwilling to resolve the problem- which curiously goes away when I take it in to them!
    I know it is not driver error as many others have reported problems on TRocs, Seat Atecas and Tiguans.
    It manifests itself in a reluctance to release the handbrake when pulling away (car is manual version), and manouvering using Auto Hold is a nightmare.
    I understand that it may be possible to adjust the sensitivity of the Auto Hold, and/or handbrake function using VCDS. Does anyone know the channel and coding required to achieve this- and any security codes required?

    Not sure. They're all "Intermittent - Not Confirmed". Do they come back if you clear them?

    As for your Auto-Hold issues: I see this is a new-style Tiguan with the EPB integrated into the ABS. The ABS module has several Adaptation channels that might affect this behavior:

    IDE05264 -- AUTO HOLD increase threshold: reduced tensioning force (%)
    IDE05265 -- AUTO HOLD increase threshold: full tensioning force (%)
    IDE06139 -- AUTO HOLD slippage recognition (not activated / activated)

    I would start by having a look at what's in those channels.

    I do not know whether a Security Access code would be required to change them.

    ^^^ niggly: Hi - to add to Uwe's sage advice:

    I'm not sure if my issue is my Antipodean version of English but in reading your description of the problem ("reluctance to release the handbrake when pulling away"), you might also consider the Hill-hold function.

    In the hex03 module, there is an adapptation channel with the appropriately name descriptor:MAS02138-Hill-start assistant and the factory setting is normally normal. But it's possible to set this to early - might be worth consideration IMO.

    With reference to the Hill Hold Assist- I was aware of Hill Hold, and had seen the adaptation channel in the controller, but is it the same thing as Auto Hold- ie will changes to Hill Hold affect the way Auto Hold works?

    With reference to the Hill Hold Assist- I was aware of Hill Hold, and had seen the adaptation channel in the controller, but is it the same thing as Auto Hold- ie will changes to Hill Hold affect the way Auto Hold works?
    niggly:I'm not sure of the official definitions, but my understanding is that Auto-hold and hill-hold are related. However, the two are kind-of different because they separately target opposite ends of the car's travel.

    AUTO-hold targets the stopped behavior of the car -the function assures an automatic hold over the vehicle when stationary (regardless of the way the vehicle was brought to a stop). For auto-hold, the pressure required is calculated and set by the ABS module @ address hex03. After the car is stopped for a period of time, the system then changes over to the EPB (i.e. the holding torque is calculated and passed on from the ABS control unit to the EPB)

    Hill hold targets the way that the EPB releases itself when the vehicle is driven off. It's a complex system of balance between the EPB, the accelerator and clutch pedal.

    So the two functions do different things!! If you alter the auto-hold function, it won't/shouldn't affect hill-hold (except at the extremes - I guess)

    What a brilliant explanation Don, Thank you for taking the time to answer.
    From what you've described, it certainly looks like Hill Hold is the area I need to look at- since most of the issues I've experienced relate to problems pulling away and manouvering.
