    2002 Mk4 Jetta Immobilizer issue

Back story: Drove the car to work, 45 minutes from home. Worked for 9 hours and went to start the car, the immo light comes on and the car dies after one second. I have tried several things suggested on other forums, but no luck. This is a 2002 Jetta TDI, straight stock, 445,000 miles, 1.9T. I have tested the resistance from the cluster to the immo ring and found it to be about 23-24 ohms through the wires, steady even prodding the wires. The lock cylinder was removed and the resistance for the immo ring checked and it was the same, rock steady.

The Immibilizer light continues to flash when any key is placed in the ignition. I have the SKC code, but it will not allow me to enter anything into the cluster. When logging into the instrument cluster, no lockout occurs. I have been able to recode the WSC in the ECU with the SKC code so think the code is proper. I cannot recode the WSC in the cluster, i tried several times.

When in 17-Instruments, blocks 21 and 22 return the ERROR statement. I have the column apart with the air bag out, that is the reason for that particular code.

In the past, there were 3 keys that worked, now there are none.

I have suspicions, but any help would be appreciated.

Send me cluster, keys and engine ecu with credentials of ownership and I can check it for you or remove immobilizer which is recommended for car of this age.

Jack I sent him here from whortex.
I couldn't understand why it shows no key in MB 022?
I wanted him to change the WSC in cluster to prove SKC was correct.
He couldn't change it so I thought wrong SKC.
But he can change the WSC in ECU with the SKC so that would tell me the SKC is good.
Once he ohmed the coil for key and still has nothing in MB 022 for keys. So I sent him here cause I am lost.
I don't think he wants to send it out unless he has too.
Seems to know his stuff and he wants to fix it. I think it's become personal. LOL

Also did I hear you right? Do an immobilizer delete. Wow times are a changing.....

    Good Luck

Oh Jack will fix it right if you send cluster keys and ECU. But I just know you want to fix it.
But I think cluster is bad. And Like Jack said with a car this old who's gonna steal it?
So immobilizer delete makes sense. Because of age and use this shit is old and it breaks.
But a used cluster will not work unless you have the donor SKC and you said you got your SKC years ago.
So you have to pay someone again to get the SKC for a used cluster.
Plus I think you want to keep the mileage you almost got a 1/2 million.

    Good Luck

I just changed the timing belt for the 3rd time in February, so want to go to about 600k at this point, maybe further. The car is driven about 30-35k miles per year since it was acquired by me. It is my daughter's car, and she works 46 miles from home, one way. The TDI goes over 500 miles between fills, so she gets a week per tank. I have kept MK3's running well into the 350k miles and some B5's running to about the same, with me changing the timing belts when required. It gives me some satisfaction to do some of this as it is significantly different from my day job.

I think Jack has commented previously on 'tex post many years ago, but he had so many posts, he would not remember specifics because I do not. I just remember the screen name.

It is most likely bad Cluster . Not very rare problem on Jetta.Golf but it happens time to time.
I have seen this problem lately , I guess it is Age of those cars .

I was banned due to calling out flat out fraud and advertisers complaining that I did stuff for free and wasn't a paid for advertiser, so I was forced to advertise in Whoretex & to give stuff away and indeed I did, until they still banned me after not renewing the contractual agreement & because I spoke the truth when someone was being robbed.

In some cases, parts are not made available and a car this old still has an alarm system that aids in starter lock out.

If someone really wants the car, they will get it.

I have brand new TDI clusters for Jokeswagen or reman.

In my own TDI car the light for IMMO flashes to remind me why I run an Immo defeat when condition exists & to not worry about it when the same issue ensues only my car starts and runs!

    KISS method applies here........

Admin Note: Please don't use the [Print] function in VCDS to post scans here. The formatting it produces, while optimitized for a sheet-fed printer, is much harder to read here than the original, plain text files that VCDS produces when you use [Copy] or [Save], and that it saves surreptitiously to your Logs sub-folder.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
