    Overboost on new to me Audi A4 2008 B7

    I bought this car and it is my first dive into the world of turbo chargers. The car sets with over 180,000 miles and I'm getting an overboost code. When I bought the car it popped up on me and I cleared it and it took over 400 miles before it came back. I'm have done some looking into this charging system but am still very new to this stuff. I'm worried that the car might have an aftermarket turbo or some new fuel maps because when I stepped on the gas it will boost up to about 18 psi and it did this constantly for weeks without throwing a code. From what I can tell the car should be running at 12 psi max and should trip engine lights if it ever gets up to 14 psi or higher. From what I can tell I tell I need to pull the turbo off and clean out the turbo fins (I'm about to do the vacuum testing on this to check if it is really froze up) but I don't want to dive into this without asking you people because I'm not 100% sure yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    I can't get you the data (I don't believe) at the moment. I have the intake of and a couple other things. I got into testing and noticed that the diverter solenoid is disconnected completely and has black tape covering the wire harness connector. This has been like this the whole time I've owned it and it didn't throw a check engine light until recently. Can you help me understand how this is possible?

    Fix that first. If the ECU can't control the wastegate, it can't control the boost.

    The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
