    2018 Skoda Karoq - tyre pressure fault

    Hi guys,

    I’ve got a warning light for the tyre pressure monitoring service being unavailable.

    I’ve found the following error on the ABS module. Would really appreciate some help as never had any experience with this system before.

    Bit of background info is the vehicle was involved in a minor front end collision, I can’t see it being that however the only physical possibility that any damage to wheels or sensors near wheels could be the forklift that is used to move the vehicles around.

    On a 2018 Karoq AFAIK the TPMS is done by software only using the ABS wheel speed sensors, have any coding changes been made to the ABS from the OEM value?

    Firstly thank you for the reply.

    As far as I’m aware since the vehicle has only done 2000 miles and I purchased it directly fro the insurance company there have been no coding changes.

    However I have the build sheet and it includes Pr codes for tpms sensors?

    No problems. Was trying to avoid it as there are a lot of errors as most of the front end has been removed and in the process of putting all the new parts on. Essentially everything from the front panel has been removed and putting back together.

    As Uwe said, lots of that stuff can be related. Sometimes there's a whole chain of faults and you need to see the whole picture to find where the avalanche started. Certainly feel free to contextualize any of it for us, like the fact that it's missing due to ongoing repairs, etc as you have already done.

    You say you have PR-code indications for direct TPMS sensors, which seems to be improbable for this car. You redacted the VIN as is your right but I can't verify the PR codes myself via PL24 without it. For indirect TPMS, I wouldn't expect any real ability to validate that without the car assembled and driven, and I'd be surprised if you can get any sort of fault to happen except a flag for some dependency it's missing.

    Speaking of dependency it's missing, I believe both direct and indirect TPMS need to factor in ambient air temperature, which in your case, probably comes from G17 Sensor for Ambient Air Temperature, which is either detached or damaged. As a test, stick that back on and see if your TPMS fault becomes Intermittent and/or clearable.

    From experience, I know that in BMW motorcycles with direct TPMS sensors (which do not differ from the ones they use in the cars except for the mounting hardware), the sensors actually know individually both air pressure and temperature. AFAIK, the temperature value is not part of what the sensor sends to the receiver (= control unit), but rather used to apply a correction on the pressure value sent to the control unit. Would have been nice to have displayed on the dashboard on a motorcycle, since knowing if your tires are warm is actually quite essential...

    Anyway, regarding the OP:

    As stated by previous posters; first you need to confirm what tire pressure monitoring PR-code this vehicle actually has. Indirect TPMS is also a PR-code of which the description sometimes looks pretty deceiving.

    If your vehicle did have direct TPMS but no sensors are present in the wheels, a sizeable amount of control units will need coding and adaptation changes to switch over to indirect TPMS. But since there is no module 65 in your scan and no other control modules complain about that, my guess is that this vehicle never had direct TPMS or it did, they tried to code it out but half-assed it.

    Wheel-level temperatures are definitely sent by the gen 1 Beru systems used on the direct TPMS vehicle I have access to (a 2006 Phaeton). I can't speak for the gen 2 stuff. Comparison to ambient temperature figures into the calculations and warning thresholds.

    Anyway, this was only an offhand theory. If OP plugs in the G17 and it doesn't help, I don't think it's worth pursuing any further until the vehicle is assembled and driving and they can carry out a TPMS reset.

    Cars back together and all good. It was the outside temp sensor and all the further databus errors across most of the other systems was caused by a crimped wire to the radiator automatic blind that’s on the 1.6 diesel.

    It’s nice to see no DTC’s on the car! Once the vehicle is back from the paint shop I’ll do the final fitment and hopefully that’s it. If not. See you then
