thanks guys, sorry it took so long to repy. i went and bought another OE sensor from the dealer just to verify that it was not a bad sensor. same issues with this one as others. slightly more activity on the voltage but still between 0.4-0.6 V. i dont know what else it could be besides the ECM other than possible a corroded ground somewhere. how can i verify 100% that it is the ECM before i spend that kind of money to fix it? any other suggestions? Thanks again

Did you tone harness out with load light back to ECU and all shared tracks?

Did you check into the useful life warranty for this problem?

How are you doing with this? I have just looked at Elsa and it looks like a standard Zirconia sensor. The 2 white sensor wires are the heater, so with a test light and the engine running check pin 2 grey/yellow ECU side, test light should be on, Pin 1 Blue/Yellow ECU side, light should not be on, If it is you have a bad ground.
I repeat, the sensor voltage will not cycle on a post cat sensor, if it does your cat is gone!

sorry again for the long delay in my response. things came up that did not allow me to look work on the car for a while. i load tested all 4 wires with a 55w headlight bulb that i rigged up as a test light and the bulb lit up bright for all wires. i cleaned all grounding points in the upper dash area in hopes that possibility of a corroded grounding point. i also went and smoke tested the exhaust and intake again just to verify that there were no leaks.

HMC... i have tested this several ways. sensor connector pin #1 (blue/yellow wire) is supplied batt voltage once car is started. Pin #2 (black wire) is pulsed ground from the ECM. i have graphed both of these signals using a scope and during a 30 min drive cycle i never noticed any inconsistencies that would indicate a loss of voltage. as i was sitting here typing this i was thinking "what is sending power to fuse #43? during key on, engine on condition?"..... looking at the diagrams that i have, it looks like the J271 (ECM power supply relay) supplies this power. do you guys think that this relay could be faulty and some how causing a slightly delayed power source upon first starting the engine that would cause the ECM to throw this code?

Did this flag the DTC while you were doing this test drive with the scope on? How did you connect the scope leads?

I have back probed harness at ECM and graphed MBV, both readings matched perfectly. The code did set while driving and scope connected but there were never any voltage drop outs during the drive cycle. And this is my reasoning that maybe there is a problem with the power supply relay or some other component, causing a slightly delayed voltage supply to the sensor upon startup and this is causing the ECM to flag the code... my thinking is that you would see a voltage dropout on the scope when the code is set, but this never happened.

Don't speculate, verify with SSP and RTFB!

Always test components isolated............

hi jack, could you please explain to me how to properly isolate and test the components?

Watch video.

Unplug ecu and sensor's, test tracks as per RTFB using WD.

i have tested everything that i can possibly think of and everything appears to check out just fine. are there any VAG scans, or tests that i can run with with a scope box that i could post that would help someone with better knowledge than me figure out what is going on? this is getting very frustrating

I have seen this before where an ECU was faulty or the respective OXS sensors were not actually genuine and in this car they have to be!

You still have not verified for FOD programming!

Please clear DTC's and post a new complete FRESH auto-scan.

Why have you not taken to dealer for useful life warranty?

the post-cat sensor is the one that i am having trouble with and i have recently replaced it with a brand new one from the dealer that has less than 50 miles on it at this point. i have checked the other 2 sensors and they also appear to be genuine. what are you referring to when you say verify FOD programming? i will post a fresh scan of the car after clearing codes and a scan after the code appears so you can compare them. how do i post the scans in a code box so they are not a big long message? the dealer does not want to cover this because of the salvage title, i know that i could make a big stink about it, but i dont want to burn any bridges.

Hmmmm... it sounds like you think its possible that one of the other sensors could be bad causing this issue with sensor 3. How would i go about testing the other sensors to either verify that they are working properly working or faulty? All 3 of the sensors are supplied batt voltage via a common wire with an inline connection in the dash. So that just leaves the ground circuit that comes directly from the ecm.

Wouldn't you RTFB and use proper test equipment to verify the harness + DVOM and or scope to measure amplitude or voltage output and the glow heater circuit for the OXS heater with visual confirmation of operation and measurement of crystal voltage produced with a propane torch to induce it on bench?

thanks for the link on how to insert code. I have been trying to find proper testing procedure in the manual but I cannot seem to find much information on this, especially the specs for these sensors, do you happen to know what the specs are?. I also was unaware of using a torch activate the sensor. after a little research, my understanding of this test is to test the sensor signal wires not the heater circuit. is this correct?

here are the scans from the car after a code clear and the second one is after a 40 mile test drive. the 2 codes present after the test drive appeared pretty quickly after being reset. that being said, the CEL light typically came on after 18-20 miles but never came on after this drive cycle. please let me know what you think after comparing the scans.

today I retested all sensor heater circuits and all seem good. so I then hooked up the scope to the heater signal wire at the ECM and the other channel to the power supply wire to attempt to catch one of them dropping out at the moment that the codes show up. funny thing is that I never did get a heater circuit code after nearly 40 miles with this setup. any thoughts on why this might be? my test method was back probed ECM pin# 6, and the other test lead was connected at the common connection in the power supply to the sensor heater circuits (E30). I attached a complete scan

"I never did get a heater circuit code after nearly 40 miles with this setup. any thoughts on why this might be?" Loose pins at the connector made good with the back probe?
