2006 Audi A8 Air suspension error

Hey Guys,

I have a 2006 Audi A8 that has a suspension issue. The front has dropped entirely and the rear has lifted up completely.

About 2 months ago we replaced both front air spring assemblies with used ones and the car was adapted and left without a problem. a month after that the owner called and complained that the front was completely down while the rear was unusually high (At maximum height)

The scan doesn't pick much apart from the basic setting not done fault (from a failed re-adaptation) and level lower limit reached faults.

Ive tried looking for leaks and cant see any, even removed the airsprings and tested them in water but no bubbles.

We've smoke tested the pipes and didnt see any leaks,

we replaced the valve block with a brand new one (worn plastic threads) and it behaves the same front down rear raised

the compressor does run when you try adaptation but immediately after i can only see like 4 bar

does anyone have any ideas? maybe a few workshop tests i could do? im hitting a wall now

did abit of data logging but the values dont make much sense. anyone see anything?

Sounds like a sensor is bad causing an out of calibration issue or a bad servo manifold.

Verify the bags and zones first + each sensor reports as required & with DVOM.

Calibrate the ride .........

I have a 2006 Audi A8 that has a suspension issue. The front has dropped entirely and the rear has lifted up completely.

About 2 months ago we replaced both front air spring assemblies with used ones and the car was adapted and left without a problem. a month after that the owner called and complained that the front was completely down while the rear was unusually high (At maximum height)

The scan doesn't pick much apart from the basic setting not done fault (from a failed re-adaptation) and level lower limit reached faults.

Ive tried looking for leaks and cant see any, even removed the airsprings and tested them in water but no bubbles.

We've smoke tested the pipes and didnt see any leaks,

we replaced the valve block with a brand new one (worn plastic threads) and it behaves the same front down rear raised

the compressor does run when you try adaptation but immediately after i can only see like 4 bar

does anyone have any ideas? maybe a few workshop tests i could do? im hitting a wall now

did abit of data logging but the values dont make much sense. anyone see anything?

ok so i used the basic settings to 1st deflate the entire vehicle and secondly pump it back up in turn, the car did as t should and i managed to drop the rear down and raise the front and get the car level,

so im assuming the valve block (new) is fine.

2nd i used basic settings to fill the accumulator and managed to get to 11.5 bar before it started aborting possibly due to over temp?

Then tried to run an adaptation and it failed. vehicle didnt even budge up or down as it usually does and threw the error message after a few minutes.

rescanning fault codes showed the obvious callibration fault and an extra vehicle level: lower limit exceeded fault. despite the fact that the vehicle was perfectly level at the time.

so Im suspecting a faulty level sensor but cannot make out which one.

Also scoped the each level sensor when connected to the vehicle and got basically the same waveforms from all sensors.

this test was done at the sensor, not at the control module. maybe test at the CM??

SO decided to make my own leak tester. it allows me fill the line with an external source, and most importantly it has a gauge and shut off valve to isolate the line and measure for any leaks.

most parts were sourced off ebay and hardware stores.. i did have to get someone to fabricate the adapters to allow the vehicle lines to connect

Final product.... the right side is where the supply comes from, either from the vehicle (inline) using basic settings, or with a homemade adapter to allow the workshop air supply or a tyre compressor which is not very strong but a tleast lifts the vehicle to do a leak test . the blue line goes to the vehicle using the standard olive and nut connector

the red pipe is quick release, you push the red tab inwards and the pipe comes off leaving the nut on, the dryer will be for generation 2.

update on the car, pumped in up yesterday, closed off the tap and its still standing as of this afternoon. which means the air spring is intact. can now move backwards on the line and retest again at the next connection at the valve block.

also the car finally logged a rear right level sensor faulty code so have gone ahead and ordered it...
