    Audi A4 DPF issue

    Hi,

My friend has an A4 B7 3.0 TDI BKN.

He was having issues with his dpf being clogged and was getting limp mode and the code P242F. He took his car to a local garage to who dismounted the dpf and sent it to get a chemical cleaning procedure. They then remounted it on the car and started the engine. However the error code is still there.

The differential pressure across the dpf is now low and the calculated soot mass is low (4g ish), but the actual soot mass is still showing as very high (76g or so).

The garage said that they don't have the software to tell the car that the dpf has been cleaned, and there is nothing more they can do. The owner of the car has ordered a VCDS cable which is due to arrive tomorrow. I understand that I need to provide a serial number or something to get my account here verified, I will do that as soon as I have the code.
He's not computer literate so I will be using the cable and sorting it out.

In order to initiate the adaptation procedure I think that I have to go into security access and put in a code. Will that code be supplied by the software/cable, or do I have to look elsewhere?

I'm trying to get a drop on things so I can get going as soon as the cable arrives. Does the software come with the cable, or do I download it from your website?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

You can download the software from this page.

Once you get running, the first thing to do is post an Auto-Scan.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

Apparently I should put something witty or profound in here...

Fixed. Somehow that got a spurious carriage return in it.

Right, made some progress. Got the cable, installed the software, and scanned the car. Results below.

This is measure blocks 102, 103 and 104

This is what happens if I try to do the DPF replacement in adaptations. The pop up window says to enter 0001, but the option to save is greyed out.

Lastly, this is a graph showing DPF differential pressure and engine rpm. The engine is in limp mode and won't really go above 2k rpm. The peaks on the graph are me flooring the pedal. No power, but also very little differential pressure. I think that what is happening is that because the soot has gone above the threshold where the car won't regen due to fire risk, the engine now is remaining in limp mode and won't regen until the adaptation is done. Even though the differential pressure is now low again. But I could be wrong, any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

p.s. the software said that I have 15 uses until I have to activate or register it, how do I go about doing that?

I suggest correcting the the EGR and IMR problems first.

    -Uwe-
The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

The IMR issue has been there for a while now. It pops up but doesn't trigger the engine light until it's appeared something like 8 times. I'll deal with it at some point, but once everything else is up and running.

For the EGR, I will deal with that soon. The car is currently parked at another friend's house (it's a bit confusing. I live at A, I can do repairs at B, the car is parked at C, and the owner lives at D).

I want to avoid driving the car from C to B if possible, as it's up the side of a mountain and I'm not sure limp mode would do it. I also don't want to risk clogging the cleaned DPF by driving if the ECU won't allow a regen to occur until the adaptation is performed. The owner is also renting a car at present, so the sooner the limp issue can be resolved the better. Even if that means driving with an engine light/egr issue for a few days until a new part arrives.

Based on the scan and data, does it look like the dpf has indeed been successfully cleaned, and would doing the adaptation get past the limp mode and allow the regens to occur again?
