I am a newbie with VCDS but not with electronics, just need some troubleshooting help.
Working on two almost identical Beetles. 2005 and 2004, both TDI with DSG transmissions.
It works great on the 2005, diagnosed and fixed several issues with several systems, including the transmission, communicates with all the controllers.
When I connected it to the 2004 I can see all the systems except the transmission which gives the dreaded "no response from controller".
The transmission in the 2004 seems to be working but started juddering on takeoff a few days ago, hence the scan.
I already have a new camshaft position sensor on order, hoping that may be causing the juddering, certainly causing some hard starting issues.
Just need some ideas what to check on why no transmission?
I do have a scope and logic analyzer if needed.

John.

Since none of the other modules are fussing that the TCM is off line, the first thing I'd do is check continuity of the K-Line (that's the single-wire dedicated diagnostics "bus") from Pin 7 of the OBD-II port to the corresponding pin on the TCM (mechatronic).

Thank you.
I think this is correct, the K-Line appears to be pin 1 on the DSG plug, is that correct? is there a wire color used for it?

Not going to have time to test until Wednesday.

Hello,

You can verify this information in the Official Factory repair manuals and wiring diagrams.

Having a quick look at the above picture, there are a few discrepancies / modifications needed.

Pin T20/13 = [15-Powrer] (Key on power)

Pin T20/11 and T20/18 = [30-Powers] (Battery power)

Pin T20/16 and T20/19 = [Grounds]

Hope this helps,

drpeter

After taking out the battery and tray I was able to get to the TCM plug and test the connectivity.
Pin 1 on the TCM plug is connected to pin 7 on the ODBII port.
I tested pin 1 on the TCM and found it is connected via a diode drop (.7v) to Ground on the TCM port.
I double checked another core DSG transmission I have and it was the same.
Thinking it might have just needed a wiggle or reboot, I put it all back together and it worked.
Connected to the TCM just fine and it reported no error codes.
Whew!
If I ever get a module not talking in the future I will try rebooting first.
Thanks all.
