I will call them this afternoon to see if they can get me a duplicate and perhaps mail it to me. Otherwise it's going to be a while before I can get down that way since the salvage yard I bought the cluster from is located in south Jersey (which is over an hour away).

Unfortunately nobody who was local to me, that I called, had one from a 2002 A4.

Hi Jack,

I'm going to have to go all the way down there in person because as a rule they don't mail out copies of receipts.

I don't have any idea as to when I'm going to be able to make it down there.

Is it really necessary since I have all the other documents you need?

Hi Jack,

Before I take a hike down to south Jersey tomorrow to get a copy of the receipt. My wife just wants me to be sure that you will be able to use this replacement cluster as direct swap.

I told her that you were well aware that they're not the same part numbers and my original is monochromatic red and the replacement is the color one. Plus my car has the factory Navigation system that's still operational and uses the display in the original cluster and that you also know what kind of error messages I was getting with VCDS-Lite. And I also explained to her that you also have the right equipment to do this kind of work, but she's needling me to just confirm with you once again.

I normally don't engage or promote retrofits but I don't see why the immobilizer wouldn't work for this, but that is your cross to bare.

Reality is, if you want stuff to always work right, install what belongs.

Thanks Jack,

I just found some notes I made a few weeks back when I contacted a Audi dealership and spoke to someone in the parts department. He gave me this info below in regards to instrument cluster part numbers for various years in the A4 B6 platform.

Audi A4

2002 - Part #: 8E0 920 950H and 8E0 920 980K

2003 - Part #: 8E0 920 950L and 8E0 920 981B

2004/2005 - Part #: 8E0 920 950P and 8E0 920 981E

It looks like it should work fine since my original is this-----> 8E0 920 980KX and the replacement is----->8E0 920 950H

Well look for auto-scans that show people put it in without error using google?

I thought you said your original cluster was not color because 8E0-920-980KX is color and 8E0-920-950H not color?

Go to N.J. get the paper work and send Jack the cluster already. Only one more hoop to jump thru!
If Jack can't do it no one can!

Good Luck

This is a picture of the original instrument cluster and this is the part number VCDS shows-----> 8E0-920-980KX

Just saying what microfiche says, that's all.
Maybe stuff is FOD!
Wouldn't surprise me if it was tampered prior or if even microfiche is possibly wrong who knows.

Is that a FAIL message?

Hi Jack,

Yes, sometimes it showed FAIL in the mileage area. Along with that the oil pressure light comes on and the temp and fuel gauge act bizzare. But FAIL may have been when the key was not paired.

Hence the reason for the need of a replacement cluster.

Also Car-fax shows the original cluster was replaced once on 06/25/2004.

Just an update Jack.

I have a copy of the cluster receipt.

Later tonight I will fill out the digital forms in order to get the process started. While I was at the salvage yard today they had another 2002 Audi cluster with the exact same Audi part number. I was thinking about grabbing it, but with two kids in college my wife would surely kill me...lol

I don't find that error and several tested with no issue.
How come no receipt posted?

Hi Jack,

I was successful this morning when I tried again.

Also receipt has information I don't want to post publicly.

I can send you the receipt in a PM here, but I thought you said no to PM's.

Your email was replied to but rejected due to invalid email address provided by you, please check it.

What specifically does the receipt have on it you don't want posted publicly for a junkyard bought cluster?

I imagine he doesn't want his personal contact info (name, address, etc) in public view.
