Can VCDS help me determine whether I need to code my injector?

Hello everyone!

I have a 2012 Seat Altea XL, 1.6tdi (CAY engine), and recently had to replace #4 injector. A local mechanic did the work for me, and got the car running again, but it doesn't run like it used to...

My problem is that I believe the (reconditioned) injector needs to be coded, but the mechanic is adamant that it does not.

So... if I purchase a VCDS, would I be able to definitively determine whether they do or do not need coding (for example, if the 3 codes match but the 4th does not), and would the coding be something that a total newbie like me could do?

There won't be three codes that match. Each injector has a unique code. Those codes may be difficult to read with the injectors installed:



There will be corresponding Adaptation Channels in your ECU. My guess is three of those channels will match what's printed on three of your injectors and one of them won't.

It certainly seems like VCDS can help with this. Made my decision to buy much easier.
