Looking for assistance on this. Owner complained of "hard starting" which I determined was really longer than typical cranking time to start of 3 - 5 seconds. This vehicle typically started up almost instantly upon cranking. It needed a lot of service, oil leaks, and carbon removal of intake valves and runners, as well as spark plugs, and a general full service change of fluids, etc. No codes present before beginning work pertinent to engine. Completed the service which did not solve the long crank issue. Fuel pressures while running are within spec., HP fuel pressure raises as expected upon shut down on hot, but LP fuel pressure leaks down to 2 bars within 15 minutes of shutdown. I assume this car has a LP fuel pump prime function when opening the drivers door, or turning the key to ON. LP tank pump does NOT run in either of these cases. I back probed the fuel pump connector to look for voltage for prime function and see none. Voltage appears after cranking begins, and after engine starts. Fuel pump test indicates the pump runs well, and on-road performance is good, so I don't feel the electric pump is faulty, but I could be wrong. I feel the electric pump SHOULD be priming before starting, but I don't know where to begin troubleshooting.

I add the full auto scan below from today below as well as an engine scan from earlier that showed two codes which may offer clues. These codes disappeared without being cleared by me.

Any tips, assistance, or comments are welcome.

An unhappy check valve to hold residual regulation at filter dumping to gas tank?

Wotseurba-
To check if the pump is priming, there are few ways you could do that: either you disconnect the fuel supply line to engine and then turn ignition on-fuel should spill out of the hose another way is to leave fuel line disconnected and then open the driver door after long sitting. Please use a container to rap fuel that may pump out and observe safety precautions when doing this. You can also hook an amp clamp to the pump wire and open driver door to check current draw if pump is priming.

But I think Jack may be right with his comment about the check valve being the culprit in this case.

To all Thank you for the replies.
Specifically:
AIB Wolfgang: I have not been able to reproduce those 2 faults. I am now of the belief that I self-created them when I was testing for pump voltage with electrical connector disconnected, and inadvertently turned on the key.

Jack & TFSI: Agreed the check valve could be worn with the age and mileage of this car allowing quicker bleed down of pressure on the low side. HOWEVER it's my belief that the LP pump SHOULD prime the system either when the driver door is opened, or at the very least when the key is turned to ON. It DOES NOT. No sound from the pump, no voltage to the pump (back probing the connector) during what I believe should be a prime function.

If I energize the pump with external power for 2 seconds, the low side reaches 3.5 BAR pressure (via VCDS), and then the engine starts immediately upon cranking.

I understand the ECM is (supposedly) to send a signal the the pump module when the d. door opens, or the key is placed in ON position. It's obvious something is inhibiting this from happening. I might suspect the pump module, but it merely is a dumb PWM control, and it seemingly functions for both pump testing (via VCDS), and during road testing.

Does anyone have insight on where to begin finding a solution to the no prime issue?

The CCM & Central are what send the signal to the FP from the door being opened.........oh look here.

Could there be a bad wire or FP module oh my........
