Benevolent Dictator
So the data type for IDE00565 in EV_ECM42FSI0118T2907560F is "OBD", and it corresponds to PID PID 52/0x34, which calls for the display of "Fuel–Air Equivalence Ratio (lambda) and Oxygen Sensor Current".
See chart here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs#Service_01
I'm not sure why older versions didn't show the current. I've checked previous versions back to to DS251 and the data type has not changed. Eric has also looked at the VCDS source and hasn't found any relevant changes. So the only thing we can think of is that your ECU's ASAM ID may have changed between the 0002 software version you had in the first log that you posted and the 0005 version in the second log that you posted. Do you have any scans that show your ECU's ASAM ID with the 0002 software in it?
If you'd like to split the two values into separate columns, I'd suggest a find & replace in that column, to replace the slash with a comma.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

I'll look as I have more than a few scans saved. And thanks for the tip. Can't stand excel but I'm sure I can figure how to do a find and replace.

Here's an old one.

Well, that's not the 0002 software in your first log, but it solves the mystery anway.
Your ECU software part number has changed, and so has the ASAM identifier.
And guess what, that older ECU software had two separate values that could be logged:
IDE00565-MAS04135 --0 Current of oxygen sensor bank 2 sensor 1 (broadband sensor) - Oxygen sensor value,LINEAR,lambda
and
IDE00565-MAS04136 -- Current of oxygen sensor bank 2 sensor 1 (broadband sensor) - Current,LINEAR,mA
Whereas your new ECU software only has:
IDE00565-ENG167462 -- Current of oxygen sensor bank 2 sensor 1 (broadband sensor),OBD,
So the difference is in the software in your ECU, as opposed to something that has changed in VCDS.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

Huh, I checked with the calibration engineer just to make sure and he states nothing was changed in the communication with the com lines. I'll double check with him.
Also, is there any way to have the logging function automatically change the file name each and every time? I did a bunch of logging only to have it all overwritten as the same file name is being chosen by the software. I'm logging completely different parameters but it's the same name each and every time regardless. When working quickly, this would be a huge benefit.
Another suggestion is when you save a group of logging parameters that it also saves the "turbo" mode option as well as the UDS grouping/time stamp if checked when saving a group of parameters.
It's extremely tough to work quickly with the VCDS logging feature when you're constantly having to change one character or having to check a bunch of small boxes. Automation is your friend.

There's nothing to double check. The software part number of your ECU changed, as did its ASAM identifier. It's all there in black and white.

I'm a bit puzzled why that would happen if you're logging "completely different parameters". Also, I don't think logs ever get overwritten; if the same file name is used, new data should be appended to the existing data in the file.

That's not a bad idea.

I would literally jump with joy if that could be implemented. The interface aspect and logistics of logging, as it now stands, are tedious and it makes it hard when you're using a small, lightweight laptop like I am. Battery lasts forever and it's cheap, so it makes a good VCDS-only tool. But it's also super hard to see anything when it's in the seat next to you and as mentioned, tedious to get everything right.
It's so easy to forget to check or uncheck one box, to rename the file, etc... I literally overwrote a ton of really valuable data today due to the fact it doesn't automatically rename a file or at least warn you the data is being overwritten.
In addition, I'd suggest, from a graphics point of view, to make the "buttons" or boxes bigger. Heck, make the whole logging window larger or even make it expandable to full screen mode. If looking at the computer, in the car, there are times where I can't even see if it says start or stop. Big buttons with larger text would be super helpful from an interface standpoint.
Appreciate you're receptive to this!

Again, I do not think logs are ever overwritten; if the file name is the same, new data gets appended to an existing file.

Have you adjusted the Window Size here?

Ah didn't realize you could do that! I'll try that for the window size.
As for the files being overwritten, I'm closing out each log. So if I'm logging the transmission, I'll do that, stop it, close it out and open the ECU and then log. Same file name but totally different parameters being logged.
Now if I'm logging the same parameters over again, and I hit resume, yes, it's being appended. But I checked my files and only one log appeared when I had recorded six different logs previously. If the coding saved each file via the date and time, that would prevent files from being overwritten.
